Do I need to take the ACT w/ essay again?

I took the December ACT with the essay and scored a 12 on it but screwed up the scantron for my reading section which gave me only a 24 for that section, causing my composite to be lower than what I had hoped. (32 English, 29 Math, 31 Science, 24 Reading, 12 Essay, COMPOSITE 29) Will I be able to take the next test without the essay and use my first as my score? I’m unsure how the ACT superscore system works and don’t even know which schools actually superscore. Thanks!

You’re probably going to want to take another full ACT again with that reading, and there’s really no reason to not stay the extra half hour if you can write a 12. A lot of schools take super scores, but a lot don’t. You want to have a really solid sitting score, and it definitely looks like you could manage a 30 something on a better day.

The writing is an extra half hour on a day where you’re already spending almost 4 hours testing. It’s not fun, but clearly you can do that section. Just do the full test again.
