Do I stand a Chance at Yale?

Hmm, so…do you think I can get in? I attend a middle class school in Fairfield County. I’m a white male, age 16, who skipped a grade.

Rank: 5 / 329 in an absolutely cut throat class (With the new weighting system that my BOE is about to put into effect, I will likely rise to 1 or 2)

So, what do you think? Thanks in advance.

White male from an over-represented state. Good ECs but could use more leadership. Good, but not great scores and grades. You’re in the pool with 18,000 other qualified candidates. Can you get in? Yes. Will you get in? 1 in 20 chance.

if you cant calculate your own gpa you have a problem.

Our school uses a very convoluted system to calculate GPAs that they won’t disclose. I could figure out my unweighted GPA, but I can’t exactly recall all of my grades.

yep, I got in and I’d say you have a chance if you retake the SAT II lit. I’d like to see more APs around sophomore year, but you can’t change you’re school’s AP policy. Remember that Yale is majority white, so it’s not as big of a deal as people make it out to be. It would have been better if you were Native American, but so what? One more thing, Calc BC junior year might have helped - again no big deal.

Yeah…our school is mighty odd. You can’t take any APs until junior year, unless you do summer studies, and you have to take Calc AB before BC. In addition, no AP sciences before senior year. Believe me, I wish I could’ve taken more APs.

I think if you can do something big over summer and work hard on your apps and essays, you will stand a chance.

BTW, how did you apply for Renssaeler and Cornell Book Award?
