Please consider my chances to the following schools
UCB
UCLA
UCSD
Stanford
MIT
Columbia
Duke
Upenn
Brown

I want to ask if it helps to write on my essay that I came to America 3 years ago as a freshman from Korea and spent a lot of time on studying English. i also want to know if there are many stundents like me who just came from other country and achieved as i did even though my stats are pretty bad compared to other applicants.

Thank you.

UCB: Unlikely
UCLA: Maybe
UCSD: In
Stanford: REJECT
MIT: REJECT
Columbia: REJECT
Duke: REJECT
Upenn: REJECT
Brown: REJECT

Are you in-state for the UC’s?
I’m gonna assume you are for now.

reject at stanford, mit, columbia, duke, upenn, brown, and UCB. your SAT scores are waayy to low. ( cr 600, w 600)

Academic Decathlon, ftw.

Good chance at all UCs. No at Stanford and MIT with both rank and scores sub par. There are many Asians who never left Asia with much higher scores applying.

Sorry, I don’t see you getting in anywhere but UCSD.

All HUGE reaches:

Stanford
MIT
Columbia
Duke
Upenn
Brown

Schools will make some allowances for you as english is a second language. But the ‘fresh off the boat’ excuse will only get you so far. And it’s not going to be very far at all. There will be kids in the applicant pool with similar experiences, but they will have succeeded where you have stumbled.

Cut half the reaches off your list.

your good for all the U.C’s even berk your sat score maybe a little low but with a good essay you’ll be fine. I’m not sure about the others but I doubt it unless you really have some special talent or sumething. But ya good luck.

Weak rank, weak SATs, weak ECs

Reject everywhere except UCs.

Give this guy a break, will ya?

I think UCSD and UCLA are likely and you got a shot at Berkeley. If you get the SAT up the others will come into play. You have excellent stats and SAT II’s. Just raise that SAT and you got a shot at Columbia, Duke, Penn, Brown. But no matter what, UCSD and UCLA are excellent schools to have a good shot at, take it from me:). Best of luck!

Likley case of being overly harsh just because SATI isnt over 2000. 90 percent of people on this forum have a 2100 and good stats and thus nobody want anybody w/o a great SAT I to get in or for the matter apply by bashing on the persons self confidence. I dislike these kind of people who outwardly give peoply like the OP and I no chance at schools because of the SAT or GPA. The fact of the matter is I know several people who have gotten into schools with far far far lower stats than I. However, when I asked for chances, I was given a reject for UCI!! Obviously my chances as well as the OP’s chances are lower, but nobody should discourage someone from applying somewhere…THERE I SAID IT!!!

UCB: Low Reach/Reach
UCLA: Low reach/Reach
UCSD: Low Match
These are assuming you are In state
Stanford: Extremely high reach
MIT: Extremely high reach
Columbia: Extremely high reach
Duke: High Reach
Upenn: Extremely high reach
Brown: High Reach

i had a REALLY long post that i typed up, and then i clicked post reply and then BOOM all of it gone cause it logged me out…

well, good luck!

just apply whats the worst thing that can happen, maybe you can use the bashing experience on this forum to concoct a dashing essay about going up against the odds, prevailing the the face of adversity, believing in a dream and following it, blatant disregard for public opinion and venture forth to you goal or standing firm in the face of certain failure etc etc

I think that sometimes the ‘bashing’ that occurs on this forum can be a wake up call for kids who are being unrealistic in their college search. If kids with 2300+ and 4.5s are rejected by the dozens every year, then why should someone with a 1900 have a good shot at acceptance at these same institutions?

“why should someone with a 1900 have a good shot at acceptance at these same institutions?”

This is your problem…its not a good shot, but there is a chance…which true top students on this forum are unwilling to accept!!!

Come on, this guy is only here for 3 years! THere’s only so much you can do in 3 years to learn a language!

notice how newer CC’ers have a difference of opinion.

ATTENTION CC members: Dont turn into a nomber CC er

I’m on the same boat as you. my stats are almost exactly identical. tough course load, everything high cept critical reading sat. I dont think you are a high reach for schools, but borderline. you have a shot tho
