Do I take a risk at carnegie? Need to know before Jan. 7

Well, here’s the deal, I’m really interested in going to carnegie mellon, just dying to. But I really need to be practical and assess my chances of getting in because my grades aren’t spectacular, so I thought I would ask it is vital that make a decision by January 7th.

I’d like to apply to SCS, but I wouldn’t mind CIT either. I really regret slacking off sophomore year, but there isn’t much else I can do. So what’s your verdict?

Wait… what exactly is risky about applying?

Your ECs are better then mine, my gpa is 3.6, my classes are way harder then yours, my sats are exactly the same, my sats II were all in the 750s (Phys, calc, history). I was deferred.

I need to make a decision by January 7th, whether or not to apply or accept another offer. Basically my question is, what are my chances, as hard and vague as a question that is.

No one can accurately tell you your chances. You must decide.

isnt the deadline for applying jan. 1?

I’d say there definitely is a chance (even though I’d put it at under 50%). So yes, its worth it to apply.

If anything, I’d focus your essay on how you’ve improved since those classes you did poorly in, and why you won’t be defeated by the difficult college coursework.

Do you really have to make your decision by January 7th for the other school? Unless you applied ED (in which case you shouldn’t be reneging on your decision to attend there if accepted), or the other school is not in the US, there is an agreement between colleges that no decisions need to be made before May 1 (there may be different clauses for athletes). Ask on the parents board for information about that…

CMU seems reachy for you. The only way to know if you’ll get in is to apply.

Uh, isn’t CMU’s deadline January 1st? If you haven’t applied to CMU yet(and aren’t a transfer), then you can’t apply for this academic year.

Wow I have seen a lot of FIRST people here. What do you think of the game?
I also thought that the deadline passed (Jan 1), but you have enough of a chance at CMU to try applying. Your ECs are good.

Yay FIRST

I think the game’s alright this year, although my first impression of it was just “robots driving in circles… whee…how exciting???” It’s going to be interesting though. I hope some teams make a trebuchet/catapult design! We’re probably just going to use a traditional forklift. I do like the new IR idea though.
