Do individual grades matter?

For most of my academic subjects (English, Math, Science, Foreign Language, Fine Arts) I have straight 90+ averages. However, in most of my Freshman Year courses, and in one semester in chem in sophomore, I did not do so well. However, my average as a whole is in the high 90s. And as of now in Junior Year, which is supposedly the most important, I have gotten straight 90s in every subject but one (Earth Science–I want to major in the humanities anyway). If I get a good ACT score (I have gotten between 28-30 on Barron’s practice tests) in April, can I still compete for selective colleges, such as Georgetown’s school of government, and McGill University in Montreal?

Thanks.

McGill does not look at 9th grade!

Yes, that is very comforting. I still have a C+/B- in Chemistry. But I’m applying for college of arts, how much will it matter?
