<p>Does taking AP Calculus AB and BC instead of taking AP Calculus BC and AP Statistics have a “major effect” on your college applications? Do Ivys prefer that you take Statistics in one of your years in high school, or it doesn’t really matter much (make a big difference) if you take one class or the other or both? </p>
<p>I would say Calc carries a bit more cachet than Stats in general. But I don’t think it is major, you could go either way.</p>
<p>If you are strong enough in math to complete precalculus in 10th grade or earlier, then it is probably a waste of time to spend two years on calculus (AB one year and BC the next year) if your high school offers a one year calculus BC course. Take the one year calculus BC course, then choose another academic elective (post-calculus math at a local college or statistics are options, but so are non-math academic options).</p>

<p>WAP: the conventional wisdom, if you are applying to any selective college is to take as rigorous courses as possible that you can excel. </p>
<p>I don’t think there would be “major” effect. However, AP Calc BC would cover AP Calc AB. So AP Calc BC + AP Stat actually would give you more credit. My D’s school does offer AP Calc AB and BC but one may skip AB as it will be pretty much covered by the first semester BC. Other school may spread the whole Calc BC into 2 years (AB first and then the remaining in BC). So you may want to find out from your GC if there is a pre-requisite for taking BC.</p>
<p>No. Why are you asking the same question over and over again??? You’ve gotten your answer numerous times! No matter how many times you ask, the answer is going to be the same! AP Stat is optional, an elective. Take four years of math including calculus, then see if you can fit in AP stat as an elective.</p>

<p>AP Stat is not an elective and all that stuff about “lite APs” is complete BS. No college prefers to see any specific course chosen because it would be unfair to students who don’t have access to many APs.</p>
