My daughter wants to add a link to a website she created for a personal project she worked on last year and talks about quite a bit in her essays. I know it’s unlikely an AO will actually click on it, but she still wants to add it.
She was able to add it into the additional information section while filing out the common app but when she previews the section the link is no longer active. Does this mean the AOs will not be able to click it if for some reason they actually want to, when viewing her application?
Depending on the specific reading software the university uses (like Slate), admissions officers often cannot click the link or even copy-and-paste the text. They would have to manually type the URL into a browser.
Policy and Security Restrictions: Many admissions offices explicitly instruct their staff not to click external links due to cybersecurity risks and strict time constraints per application.
If the school uses Slate to read apps, the link is not a hyperlink (clickable). However, the reader is able to highlight and copy the link, and then paste in a browser. I do this a handful of times each year, usually to read certain research publications.
