are the intro bio courses at cornell essential for getting into med school?
do alot of pre meds at cornell skip the intro bio courses with their ap credit?
i’ve heard about ppl opting for bio 1250 (seminar)?

i believe most do not skip cause most pre fresh dont know much about it and decide to take the class since its safer to do so… one of my friends had her cornell interview with a Cornell alum who graduated as vale or salu and she told my friend to not use her ap credit and instead just take it in cornell b/c the cornell bio is much harder than HS ap bio. We thought that since she graduated with such high grades, we should trust her but it was a dumb idea… cornell bio was way easier than AP bio and cornell intro bio was pretty much a waste of time so if i could have chosen again, i would skip

oooo
if the intro bio course is easy in terms of materials, is it easy to get an A/A- in intro bio despite the median grade being liek a B-??

^not really, thats the thing. the material is not bad, but its not always easy to get a high grade.

this.

i think our more respected members advise not to skip the pre-med requirements with AP credit because med schools (esp. the top ones) need those pre-med courses to compare you with other applicants…

the fact that an A is hard to get in a course like BIO is why not ALL cornell students get into a MED SCHOOL. although many pre-meds do tend to try to have above median grades (esp. now that you guys will have the median grade published on your transcript)

Retake Bio!!!
A lot of med schools dont take AP credit for their required classes! Plus youll get x-tra practice for the mcat ;)

med schools require one year of bio, and they prefer it in a college setting. But, you do not have to take Frosh bio; you could take one year of upper divsision bio instead if you think you will do better.

^^like microbiology in the spring? (could you take it concurrently with intro chem even though 1 year of college chem is a prerequisite?)
