Step 2 of ordering a CCI computer says “Select a printer”. Do most students have their own printer? Or are there common print services for use on campus?

You get 40 dollars of printing money each semester. You definitely don’t have to have your own printer. I haven’t had one in two years and I haven’t run out of printing money any semesters.

I bought one and didn’t really ever use it until I moved off campus. As packerfan89 said, you get $40 in printing money so most people use the print stations – you can print from your laptop, and then swipe your OneCard at any of the print stations throughout campus.

More information, including a list of print stations, here: [ITS Labs One Card Printing (Pharos) FAQs | UNC-Chapel Hill Help and Support](http://help.unc.edu/5965)

Don’t buy a printer – the sort of cheap inkjet you would buy will kill you on the ink costs.

I think printing on campus is 5 cents a page after you use your free allowance. No inkjet will match that, and the quality will be worse too.

My son bought a printer at Staples. Always uses it.

My daughter took one with her but now think she would have better off not having one. The $40 semester printing allotment (included in fees) does not carry over so you just waste the money if you don’t use it.

My son enjoys the convenience of having a printer right in his room. To each his own I guess!

The print stations are fairly ubiquitous throughout campus, the UL, the Union, each dorm has one, there’s really no reason you need a printer, and you’re already paying for $40 of printing on the CCI printers (laser, prints both sided if you want it), so why waste the $ on ink?
