Do not like living in a dorm?

Did anyone else not like living in a dorm room? I received a grant to live on campus so I did not have to pay for rent (although I was required to buy a meal plan) and I don’t care for it. I mainly lived there for my first semester except on weekends when I would go home to visit my parents. This semester I have mainly stayed at my parents house (they only live 20 minutes away) as I didn’t care for the lack of privacy. I room with three other girls as it is a 2 bedroom (2 girls in each room) and I didn’t like having to share a room with someone. I would also try to go to sleep some nights and it would be tough as the walls were paper thin as I could hear my roomates and their friends if they were over and I would also hear the people upstairs. The bed was also very uncomfortable and the food made me sick.

What was other people’s experiences living in a dorm room?

It’s pretty normal to not love living in a dorm. I moved off-campus after freshman year, and it’s nice to only share a bathroom with 1 other person and have way more space.

Seems kinda pointless to live there if you have a nice comfortable house 20 min away.

Lots of people don’t like it. Some don’t have a choice.

Why spend the grant money if you are miserable? Unless it’s a condition of a scholarship or the school (many require freshmen to live on campus for the first year), I wouldn’t bother. Dorm life is a great way to meet people and a great base to aspire from (as in, it can only get better from here and I want to make sure I do whatever it takes NOT to have to live like that again), but it’s not for everyone.

That being said, unless you are able to make a ton of money right off the bat out of school (or live at home), you will be back to a roommate situation post-graduation; that is the economic reality. Maybe not so bad if you don’t have to share a bedroom.

Hated living with two other girls first semester since one would make the bathroom dirty and never clean it. Second semester the new roommate had a foul body odor she never got under control. I was forced by my parents to live in a dorm to get that “first year experience” but really all it did was show me that most girls are disgusting to live with, no such thing as privacy when it comes to dorms, dorms aren’t worth the money, and it’s better for me to live alone or at least have my own bedroom.

I think any student would not want to live in a dorm. If there is even the slightest chance to move, you need to move out.
