Well I was going to answer with some funny and witty remark, but it seems most of you beat me to it.

How about this:
If you are serious about CS, chances are that you have a least some “nerd” in you, whether you want to admit it or not, and whether or not you hung out with the “nerds” or “jocks” in high school. The sooner you come to terms with that, the happier you will be.

Life isn’t like High School. Life (usually) isn’t so cliquey, and if you want to be successful, you will have to get over this “nerd” vs. “jock” vs. “whatever else” mentality and realize that everyone is different, everyone is a little nerdy in their own way, and you can get along with most people in any given group, with a few choice exception.

Shoot, I played 4 years of football and baseball in high school, yet I finished my mechanical engineering degree on the Dean’s List and am not working towards my Ph.D. Does that make me nerdy? Yes. Can I still talk about sports, play sports, etc despite the fact that I am nerdy (and proud of it)? Yes.

Last, if you meet a girl who is turned off by you just because you are a CS major, then she is probably someone you don’t want to date anyway. Anyone who is that shallow isn’t worth your time. More than likely, if a girl is turned off by you, it is because of your personality, not your major.

Bottom line: If you want to do CS, then do it, and get this bull***** anti-nerd mentality out of your head. Otherwise, go major in leisure studies with all the athletes. Maybe you can sell cars after college like them if you are lucky.
