plz inform me

Depends… you’d have death march at many consulting places like Accenture, the big four etc. You’d have a very relaxing time working for government. It varies in coporate America. In all, it’s a good profession in terms of balancing work-life. You could go to management, develop your technical path, work in business functions etc.

Intresting

You spelled interesting wrong.

In the private sector, the hours aren’t bad but you’re always on call.

As others have said, it depends. My H is on call 24/7 for a large financial firm. He probably gets woken in the middle of the night 1-2X per month. OTOH, a lot of professionals, in all kinds of fields, work long hours and are on call 24/7.

It depends. Like some one just mentioned, you tend to be on calls for some for mof support or the other. IT is fine if you really enjoy it. MAny get into it thinking its fast money. But,sadly, there is too much competition there and ppl almost suck up your blood.
SOme corporations do have relaxed time lines. Research the organization before you join.
Good Luck

Why is there so much competition? For other technical fields like engineering(something I had considered in the past) there isnt as much. Why would this be any different?

Btw. Asking as I am running out of general studies and it’s almost time to pick a degree

I personally think that this field does have a lot of jobs but some get outsourced. That means lesser jobs for us here. Also, this field has a lot of ppl too who keep trying to get into IT.
Anyway,Good luck…and choose IT if you want to…It’s not a bad field ,all in all.
