Do people make you feel like a bad person because of your preferred candidate?

This can go both ways.

I get a lot of “You’re too young and immature to really know what it’s like out there in the real world” when people talk politics with me (I hate talking politics, but everyone else does, haha). When people tell me this, it makes me feel like my opinion is invalid, just because I’m not in their generation. Of course, this isn’t the only demeaning thing I’ve heard.

Your thoughts/experiences?

I was talking with this far out guy about politics and he went on some rant about how Sean Hannity has Down’s Syndrome. We don’t get into politics too much anymore… As long as no strong insults are thrown and feelings are spared, no one will feel bad, unless you’re really so in the tank for someone that you go and deem the otherside immoral, unChristian, etc

I’m a Republican at one of the most Liberal schools in the country. You tell me…

TUOwls2011 - Is everyone respectful, at least? It’s kind of the opposite for me, but all us high-schoolers get along really well, despite our political leanings. I guess what I was referring to was adults/the elderly.

It’s all about mutual respect.

I just out debate people and then they respect me afterwards, and in real life its easier to make people question there political beliefs compared to online.

The College Democrats are, but the general student body really isn’t.

For the most part, one’s political leanings should be a basis for judgement. But politics does intertwine with morality ever just so and one’s political leanings (more so on social issues than on economic ones) can really tell you about their character. Sometimes certain political views are just too much to tolerate or respect, but this isn’t often the case.

Ughhh you don’t even know! I live in a rural Southern town, coming from New York and since I’ve been here I’ve heard the craziest things come out of people’s mouths! They are racist, talk down to anyone who doesn’t agree with their extreme beliefs and hatred and ignorance and stupidity. It seriously drives me insane with their attempts to make me feel stupid and worthless but I stand my ground nonetheless :)

For the most part, one’s political leanings should be a basis for judgement.

Sry, that should be shoudn’t. That should make the rest of my post make more sense.

I just pretend I don’t have political views. It’s usually more interesting to hear everyone else’s anyway.

I think a lot of people bash their opposite party and candidate. I would think the supporter of that candidate would somewhat take the criticisms personal.

It all depends WHY you support a particular candidate.

Why would I feel bad about someone else wanting the wrong person? ;)

“No one can make you feel [bad] without your consent.” - Eleanor Roosevelt, conveniently reworded by me.

nope, it’s my choice and if they don’t like it then that’s their problem
