Here’s the essay!
Information spread around today like insects buzz around. The invention of the internet has created a huge source of information and knowledge with most of them having no credibility. Anyone can post anything he/she wants. Even since the beginning of time, rumors and gossips used to spread around very quickly even more than the truth. Without verification of any received information, serious repercussions can occur.
We never really know what is true and what is not. Different friendships and relationships have been ruined because of this. Dave, a friend of mine, had a girlfriend and they had been together for 9 months until a jealous guy told Dave that his girlfriend was cheating on him. Dave was a very gullible person and he believed this. He got pissed of immediately, broke up with the girl, insulted her only to find out that it was just a lie. A simple white lie from a jealous guy ruined what could have grown into a fruitful relationship.
Shakespeare’s play Othello also provides us with a good reason why we should be sure of the source of information before acting on it. Othello,a Moorish general, falls in love with Desdemona and marries her later on. Iago, a man jealous of Othello’s promotion of a younger man Cassio above him decides to ruin the relationship by telling Othello that Cassio and Desdemona were having an affair. Othello, after many fake proofs, kills his wife only to find out the truth later on. Although he fatally injured Iago and commits suicide, it doesn’t change the fact that wrong information terribly ruined and ended his life.
In conclusion, we hear a lot of things from different people without any evidence. It is best that we take great precautions and verify the sources of these information before taking any drastic actions. My personal experience and Shakespeare’s play “Othello” proves and provides enough evidence as to why we should know the source f information before using it.
