I’m a senior in high school, and all of the schools I’ve applied to are private, religious-affiliated schools. I was wondering if there would be just as much partying going on at one of those schools as a public one.

Yes…

Thanks for your sarcasm. It was a question, and obviously, I’ve never been to college before.

Sarcasm or not, that’s the correct answer, at least from my friends experience. He goes to Baylor University, supposedly a Baptist-affiliated college, and I’ve never heard of anyone who parties more than he did his first semester there. I think in general, if you want to find a party scene at any college, it’s there.

Are you asking whether students at religious-affiliated party as much, or whether they drink as much, as at public schools?

I attended a religious-affiliated college. My friends and I went to parties, but the parties did not feature alcohol. In fact, I never saw a keg until I went to graduate school elsewhere!

If you are asking about drinking, I would say it depends on the college, its rules, and the types of students it would tend to attract. Religious-affiliated colleges can vary dramatically.

The presence/size of the party scene depends on the specific school. Many private schools, including some religiously-affiliated ones, have large party scenes while others don’t. For the record, not all public schools have large party scenes either. It’s easier for us to give you more accurate information if we knew which schools you were talking about.

Yes, I meant parties featuring alcohol. I wouldn’t expect many people there that are studying ministry and religion to be drinking, but hey, you never know.

It wasn’t meant as sarcasm. Simply put, the answer is–Yes.

If you’re looking to avoid a lot of partying, look for a college campus that isn’t isolated and has an easy access to the surrounding off-campus nightlife (walking distance or short cab ride). This helps to take the partying scene off campus so it won’t be so “in your face” in the dorms.

Oh no, I’m not trying to steer away from the partying, just wondering if going to private school would give me less of an opportunity of attending some compared to friends that are going to public schools.

I’m a freshman, and one of my best friends goes to public school and I go to private school. Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday there will be a place to drink if you want it. Compare that to public school where every night of the week there will be a place to drink if you want to…

^There is partying to be had at any night of the week whether at a private college or a public college.

It’s wrong to imply that there is less partying at private colleges than at publics. This simply is not the case.
While it may be true for your specific college, it can’t be said of all privates (or even to the majority of privates).

I’d be really surprised if there were parties every night at most private schools. I’m sure there a little drinking sessions at frats and all, but a lot of privates don’t even have frats. But maybe it is just my school. Regardless, I’m probably going to transfer to a public school next year so that should be lots of fun
