Do proctors have a right to hover?

I recently had a teacher that I have for school as a proctor, and they hovered over my shoulder for longer than they should have. Do they have a right to do this? (I was not cheating.) In my case, it made me nervous, and I missed a few questions at the end of the test.

They have a right to do it, but really should avoid making people nervous. Possibly the proctor didn’t realize it was having this effect. You pretty much have to shut out the world when you’re taking these tests.

The proctor for my PSAT came around and asked people to sign in the middle of the tests…

Ugh, that sux smart.

My proctor kept staring at me once I was done and my book was closed.

Two proctors were looking at me together and whispering after they saw me write for about 10 extra seconds after the time for the essay was up…
But they didn’t say anything to me or take my test away. Do they have to tell me or take my test away at the test center if they are going to report me for cheating?

Haha, they probably just were “let it go, it was just 10 seconds.”

For the October SAT, my proctor kept walking around the room and staring at everyone’s booklets. She didn’t single me out or anything, but it broke my concentration every time. My AP English teacher does the same thing during timed writings, which always has the effect of making me too nervous to write anything down while she is next to me.

at least ur proctor didn’t talk! another proctor came in and they talked…very LOUD whisper ><
yeah, for my PSAT, my proctor came around and made me sign forms too! that’s y i screwd up on the last math question and ended up with -1, 77. argh.

Study SAT with music on. I do that and i never get distracted on the real deal.

I already said this in the PSAT thread, but this is why it’s pretty crucial to sit in the back of the room, behind a group of people if you can.
Because those last couple of seconds used to do whatever (bubble in 2 or 3 answers, finish up a conclusion on an essay, erase stray marks, etc) can be used without getting into any hassle with any stupid proctors. And if you have 5+ minutes on the last section or something, and want to go back to finish up something you left blank earlier, you can without anyone telling you not to.

During the PSAT, I tried to go back to a math question I was working on during the verbal, and i didn’t quite finish it because the proctor was like right in front of me the entire time. I had to sit where I sat cuz of alphabetical order. And I took like 5 last seconds when she yelled stop to erase these marks and she screamed over the entire cafeteria for me to put that pencil down. (which was unnecessary in my opinion, i was just erasing some stupid marks so my answers would actually count)

I’m not saying to be bad and not obey the rules and stuff though. but the last couple of seconds shouldn’t be a war of blood over. i think proctors should sit in a corner and just read a book or something, and call time when necessary. you can’t even cheat on the sat nowadays because of all the versions. so there’s no need to walk around and cause us paranoid test takers to freak out for no reason.

well, my proctor wasn’t that bad herself - though she would still keep talking loudly after she began the timer - but there were some flunkies in the room that just gave up about halfway through the test, and who kept talking, making random noises all through the test, and banging on the tables. i wasted maybe like two minutes total rereading, b/c it was distracting… and i had to rush a little near the end of the first CR.

i still did fine though, i think.

Or just learn to not get distracted so easily…in life you’re gonna have to do stuff with distractions every freaking day, stop whining about minor crap. I really doubt her walking around caused you to miss multiple problems, if even one. Honestly…I sure hope you don’t become like a surgeon or something, i don’t want the beeping of the heart meter causing you to mess up someones bypass…

yea i had that problem. i knew the answer math section, but i didn’t fill it. then the next thing i know, time’s up. what i did was make a mental reminder of which letter the answer was, and while my procter was roaming around the room, i filled it in. also, at the end of the test, i looked over for any half filled circles while the proctor was collecting the test from the other side.
If you are going to do it, you better be quick about it.

When I was taking the AP Gov. test last year, the head of the social studies dept. came in and was reading over all of our shoulders when we were doing the essays…he even picked up some people’s booklets to read what they were writing…

^^^^ wow. ■■■■■■■■.

If that proctor did that to me…I would tell him to go screw off and stop interfering w/ my test

Yeah I’m pretty sure that’s not allowed
