I’ve been working on the common app recently and I noticed that everything is separated by the school. I know the applicant information filled out once goes for all schools, but is that the same with recommendation letters? Like, if I’m on Barnard College’s tab and I invite a teacher, will that recommendation also count for NYU?

Most colleges using the Common Application will evaluate your recommendations from teachers/counselors. By using the Common Application for their applicants to submit applications, the colleges are supposed to use a holistic evaluation process, which means their evaluation is not only based on numbers.

So… Almost all of the colleges using the Common Application will most likely use your recommendations as part of your admissions evaluation.

You misunderstood the question. I was asking whether or not the recommendations were separated based on which school you’ve selected when inviting a teacher. I understand it now though, I talked to my guidance counselor.

Inviting teachers and assigning teachers are two separate processes. Once invited, a teacher can be assigned to any college–but he or she is not automatically assigned to every college. The applicant must make those selections in the School Forms section of the application.

Suppose I invite 3 teachers, assign 2 to a particular college and then change my mind and assign 2 other teachers, will the teacher I dropped get a mail saying I dropped the teacher.
