Do ROP classes look good on applications?

I asked my counselor about ROP and she told me that ROP classes are just for students who don’t plan to go to college. I wanted to have the first-hand experience with the field I’m interested in which is medical. I am also going 4 AP classes in my senior year (I am currently in my junior year of high school). Is what my counselor said true? Would it just be a waste of time if I am going to college?

Ps. My two choices for the ROP class is Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistants.

i would think not…
You should be concentrating on Science (taking Bio, Chem, Physics and hopefully an AP of one of those), Math (up to Pre-calc or better Calc), English, Social Studies and Foreign Language (to the 4th level if possible).

If you want to be a nurse or doctor or other areas that require a bachelors those are the classes you need.

For nursing, they will teach you what you need to know in college.

For medical school, it does not matter what you major in, as long as you take the premed courses (Bio, Chem, Physics, Organic Chem, Calc, English)

If you want to get exposed to the field, then do some volunteering at a hospital or the like.

I would trust your guidance counselor on this and stick to a traditional college prep curriculum.
(Also please do not post the same question more than once on CC)

Well, having your CNA is good if you need a job in college. But first make sure you have all the core classes cf#1.

Two pre-med sons of former colleagues of mine completed CNA training while in high school. That allowed them to get plenty of practical exposure to various clinical environments as summer jobs after their senior year, and while in college. If you want to complete either the CNA or the Med Assistant program, go for it.

…but make sure they are electives, and not replacing any core courses.

You MUST have all the core classes (CF. #1)… if you can add the CNA courses to that core, excellent.

If you can’t, don’t sacrifice core classes for ROP/CNA.
