hi there, i had a question as to whether sat scores make a huge difference in getting accepted. I have a 3.9 GPA, and plenty of extra curricular activities but my sat scores are low, 1800. I want to go to NYU, and 1800 is a low sat score for nyu

Yes. SAT is very important for college admission.

At top colleges like like HYPSM (and NYU, I guess) the SAT scores aren’t as important as long as they are above a certain range, which is different for each school. Basically, the admission officers see that you are qualified for the rigorous work at the university, and focus more heavily on subjective criteria like essays and ECs. Unfortunately, your scores are nowhere near that range, and will most likely ruin your chances at NYU.
