I got a 660 on reading the first time I took the SAT, but a 800 the second time. So would colleges like the fact that I had an upward trend? Or does that have no influence whatsoever? And if my writing score decreased by 40 points, would that look bad?

Test scores are not analogous to grades.

I think this idea of ‘trends’ in testing is a result of Score Choice which has resulted in students sitting tests more frequently. IMO it’s bogus, people should be testing when they’re prepared, not over and over hoping for familiarity and age to result in higher scores.

As far as your questions:

Schools look at your top scores.

For any given score, it’s better to have tested less than more.

oh no I’ve only taken it twice. But do colleges like to see the increase or does only the highest score matter?

no a downward trend looks good… of course an up trend is good, if you send all your scores
