Do schools look at subscores at all?

I scored a 34 this June, and I’m pretty satisfied. My subscores are: E30 R33 M36 S36, along with a 9 essay.
As you can see, my English score is wayyyyy below the average, and I really want to know if this is going to hurt my chances of getting into college. I did retake the september test, and I went horribly wrong… C32, E34 R31 M34 S27.
I improved a lot on English and everything else was just trash.
I’m applying early to Columbia, Chicago and Michigan. Does a 30 English subscore hurt my chance, or schools generally just look at the composite?

Also, considering Econ/Pyschology

Typically, schools will only really look at your subscores if you are going into STEM (M&S) or are specifically going into a selective reading/writing program. You’ll also have to check and see if the school superscores. I think you’ll be fine, seeing as most school only give out their average composite ACT scores anyway, but when applying to selective schools like you are, I can’t really say. A C34 is really strong, and a E30 is still above average.

Thanks a lot for your input. UChicago does superscoore, and I sent them both my June and September scores,so think I’ll be good.
