I’ve been told that junior year is the most important year for those headed to college, but my junior year has sucked. I’ve never taken any AP classes, and my only Honors class for this year is English because for some unknown reason, my home school curriculum suddenly doesn’t offer Honors for juniors. In 9th and 10th grade, all of my core classes were Honors though. I have very few volunteer hours because I can’t drive yet and I don’t have very many people who would be willing to take me (this is why I’m home schooled at the moment. There’s nobody to take me to school or pick me up and our district doesn’t have buses.)

I have basically given up on my dreams of ever getting into a top notch school. I originally wanted to go to Cal Tech or Cornell, but given my lack of ECs and AP courses I honestly don’t see that happening. I have lowered my standards a bit and I found other schools that I like where the acceptance rate is in the 70s+. This really upsets me because the whole ordeal is purely situational. If I could participate in ECs and take a more rigorous schedule I would, but I am unable to at the moment due to a series of unfortunate events that are beyond my control.

That being said, next year I am going to public school and I am aiming to take 4 APs and participate in a minimum of 3 ECs. I know it’s not much compared to what other people are doing, but I figure it’s better than nothing. Will my colleges of choice ever see my senior transcripts and activities? My senior year will be my best year of high school, so I’m hoping they do. Thanks for any information on the topic.
