Do sterotypes or bad opinions throw you off?

Like, when reading what other people have to say about the school and the people. For example, I’ve read many posts about that include a general assumption of the student body that is very negative, and I was wondering if that ever affects what you think of school while applying, ect.

Unless the overwhelming majority of people are unhappy with a school, no. There’s always the one or two people who will complain about something, no matter how good it is. Plus, it’s important to consider that some schools aren’t for everyone, and that people tend to exaggerated when angry.

I agree with redseven.
People who are unhappy with something are more likely to post about it anyways, the people who love the school are too busy enjoying themselves to vent on an online forum

This thread poses a really valuable question.

I think one should not let other’s opinions influence one THAT much.

If it is a fit for you, than let it be. Now DO consider other’s take on the school, matter etc… but ultimately one should do what is best for one.

I guess I don’t care about others and their views…

SELFISH I know!

I read student reviews on the studentreviews website. If a large amount of people are saying the same thing (overwhelming Greek life, snobby, pretentious, etc), I take that into account, and it influences decisions.

A lot depends on the quality of the opinions. Just trashing something with no supporting evidence sounds like nothing more than an immature rant. But if someone gave reasons that he/she felt that something wasn’t good, then that opinion carries more weight.
