Do the admission officers know IOI

I wonder whether they know that IOI mean International Olympiad in Informatics, since there is not enough space in the awards section to write the full name of the competition and also to include my performance.

Int’l Olymp. Informatics would that fit?

yes
that would
in fact

International Olympiad in Informatics 2005 silver medal
would almost fit but what about

International Olympiad in Informatics 2003 bronze medal 2004,2005 silver medal
so i shortened it to
IOI 2003- bronze medal 2004,2005 - silver medal

Yes. We know what the IOI is : )

heh, sorry but what are informatics? :(

Guitar, this is interesting question.
Informatics ARE NOT, Informatics IS (like in Mathematics)
It is how the students in Eastern Europe (I am not quite sure, but at least in Bulgaria we do so) call Computer Science. The Bulgarian term is “informatika” which literally translates into “informatics”. I think the IOI is called so since the first such Olympiad (international programming olympiad - one of the six international science olympiads like IMO,IChO,IPhO,IBO (Biology) and IAO (Astronomy) http://olympiads.win.tue.nl/</a> ) was held in Bulgaria and the idea for the olympiad originated in Bulgaria. In fact most of the National Programming Contests of the countries in Eastern Europe are Olympiads in Informatics ( or at least in Bulgaria, Romania, Russia, Belorussia, Ukraine, Poland, and even Great Britain, China, and many more)

And what is more: IOI sounds better that IPO. It is even a palindrome.

Thanks Ben
So I shortened it to include all my participations in one line

hehe the IAO, that reminds me. I tried to start up an American delegation there but it ain’t easy. I found out about it too late to get a team there, and it seems like it’s all very small eastern European countries anyway, not a truly international thing…as opposed to, say, IMO, of course ;)

Eastern European hackers are amongst the best in the world-i know that, because i’m also from there =P
