Do the SATs get harder every year?

About a year ago, I tried a few tests out of the “10 REAL SATs”, and usually achieved scores in the 1400 range. My Verbal was always high, but my math was always a little below 700. Flash forward to now, and the situation has gradually improved. On the new SATs, I score very high on the CR and WR, but lower on the MA. To train myself for SAT-style math, and to avoid wasting practice tests, I did all the math sections out of one “10 REAL SATs”. In each set (which is 3 sections), I only made 2-4 mistakes, which would give me a mid-700 mark. I would die of relief if I could get that on a real SAT. However, I’m wondering if this improvement in the old SAT math sections are of any relevance in regards to the new SAT math. I know a little has changed, but it seems to be more or less the same stuff. My question is whether the old SAT math sections are so outdated and easy that improvement on the old will have no impact on the new.

The new SAT has Qs from ALgebra 2
I dont have that info about it , but it also contains digrams and harder Qs

10 real SATs would help but in only partial Qs so practise them but try to get a math workbook for the new version to avoid any inconveniences.

I took a bunch of old practice SAT maths before I got a new book and much like you i was mid 700 range. I got consistent 710-750 and I found the new math took some getting used to but I then increased my scores slightly on the practice new ones. Overall I think the change is minimal and if you are a good math student in school the alg. 2 should not be a problem hopefully. I thought the New SAT math was much trickier espically the March 12th test. No one problem was difficult it was just very tricky stuff that if you didn’t check your work you could easily screw it up. Get the new SAT collegeboard because the math there will prepare you very very well for the SAT math. But the 10 real sat’s is still a very applicable book and dont’ stress about the math because it is all about how you do on test day. Good luck in may or whenever you take it but get the collegeboard over princeton if you are getting a book.

they try to make the new SAT math “harder” by adding “advanced” concepts but it actually becomes easier since the “harder” concepts are made more conceptiual than reasoning since many ppl dont get them…

Variance , pardon … didnt get what you say ?

I wrote a list of the 10 SAT I: Math traps if anyone wants it. It is taken from various practice books and compiled together as a PDF file. If you want it send me a Private Message or an email using the link in my profile.

I disagree somewhat with the above posts. I flipped through 10 real SATs the day before the SAT and saw that the difficulties of the math were more extreme. On the one hand there were very easy problems, and on the other there were 1-2 stumpers on every test. These tests had 800, 800 curves at least. For comparison, I usually got 1 wrong on math practice tests and 0-1 wrong on the real SAT, for math. I used the 8 reals to prepare for the new SAT.
I actually saw a problem in the 10 reals that exactly the same as one on the new SAT (the concentric circle problem or whatever with answer 12 pi) except that it asked for the circumference instead of the area or vice versa.

Question: why are you using 10 Real and 8 Real and not the new SAT book from the College Board?

Zoogies: I assumed that the “8 reals” meant the new CB Book (ISBN 0-87447-718-2), and the “10 reals” meant the old CB Book (pre March 2004). Which CB book are you referencing?

[This one](http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0874475503/qid=1112496243/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/002-2944293-6926454?v=glance&s=books&n=507846), published in 1996 with 8 real SATs.

ISBN 0-87447-550-3.

Zoogies:
You must know something we don’t know. You are asking why he did not use a 1996 CB to study (ISBN 0-87447-550-3), when in fact there are 2 newer, updated books from CB in 2000 and 2004 with sample tests (ISBN 0-87447-654-2 and ISBN 87447-718-2). He says he used the newer CB book. In fact, the 2000 CB book seems to incorporate the one you are referencing. The “new” CB book you are referencing is apparently almost 10 years old. What gives? Why not use the latest CB book?

I used the new 8 reals, the blue cover, and looked at a few (5 difficulty rating) math problems in the old, 10 reals.
