Do these scores seem good for Seattle/Redmond area private schools

Hi,
My child is applying to 6th grade, just got SSAT scores, they are 87% overall (V: 93%, M: 85%, R: 70%), I’m worried that these are on the lower end for competitive schools in Seattle/Redmond (Lakeside, Overlake, Eastside Prep), wanted to check with folks here if we should bother applying to the schools above or we are out of luck.
She is a close to 4.0 in her current grade, has extra curricular activities (arts, martial arts, school community participation).
Thanks in advance.

The scores are on the lower end for Lakeside and Eastside Prep in particular, but not so low that they should keep you from applying. Also note that there are a number of other comparatively excellent independent schools (UPrep, Bush, Seattle Academy, Bear Creek…) with middle school entry points where SSAT scores likely play a lesser role in admissions.

I agree 100% with @movingtothebeach - besides test scores your child needs to be a good fit for the school. Why just these 3 ? They are different in many ways including curriculum. How are your child’s interests represented at these schools? Essays and visits will weigh a lot in the process. Not for you to answer here, but things to consider. Are you working with someone to help with your app - either current school team (if already at an independent which will be a lot of applicants) or a private counselor? Again, test scores are one piece ONLY.

Also, did your child take the ISEE - as Lakeside is the only school requiring the SSAT with all others listed accepting the ISEE and/or other in school testing with their test flex policies ?

Yes she just took the test, waiting for the results

@vikkyv - We are also applying for our son to be considered for 6th grade. Hope her ISEE results turned out good and wishing you the best. Godspeed to both of us

Thanks for your reply. Her ISEE results were better (>90% in all categories). How is your son’s application looking like?

Good for her. We have completed our apps. Can’t believe we had to do so much for Middle School. We kinda got in really late on deciding to apply for private schools. So, we don’t have a lot of expectations. No matter the results, I am proud of the effort my son (and all kids) had put in.
