This morning, I went to pull out my usual motley collection of credit card junk and viewbooks from Podunk University when I saw a beautiful, thick package from Yale University. It was hand addressed (it even had a Ms. before my name) and was in one of those bubbly yellow envelopes. I immediately tore it open only to find the course book from 2005-2006. A) Why do they tease me so? B) What good does this course book do me? C) Why send it so late in the game?

Hey, I think that’s a good sign! Why else would they send you a book of their courses? It would cost an awful lot to send this thick book to all of their 20,000 applicants, no? But maybe I’m being optimistic…

yea they do want us to suffer. A terrible, horrible, no good, very bad, agonizing wait. Peace.

That’s just weird…while certainly not a bad sign, I don’t know what to make of it. I don’t recall that kind of thing happening to anyone last year… They may have been looking for a constructive way to utilize their extra copies, although it would make more sense to wait and send to acceptees as part of the welcome package… The admissions office always remains more than a tad mysterious even to those at Yale…

I don’t really care what it means at the end of the day. The annoying part is that it looked so nice and fat…My mom was so excited when she saw it but nope…just the programs of study.

Ahhhhhh! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I just got an early notice letter from Yale!!! They are “provisionally reserving a place in the class of 2010”…thank you great gods from Yale!!!

you got that in the mail or via e-mail?

I got it in the snail mail. Got sent out March 6th and came in now. I think I got it because I’m hispanic.

wooo nice! Congrats!!!

I’m hispanic. I bet you took my spot
just kidding. Awesome! Awesome. Did you apply EA? My friend at Yale said they only send likelies to EA deferrees, but if you are amazing, then that works too.

That’s what I thought too, about the EA deferrees, but I applied RD. I doubt I took your spot. :-p They’re not s’posed to look at quotas. But it would rock if we both ended up showing up there.

i got a coursebook from cornell. 700 pages. i am not sure what it means also.

edit: wow cangratulations kiddo!
[i just read the rest of the posts]

So only provisionally accepted students get coursebooks, eh
nice. I could be one of those then.

i thought it was one of those spam mails u get after PSAT. Although i sort of sense a correlation it still could be the remnants of the spam mail things

Well, I’ve gotten course books from other schools, but those were just regular recruitment things. This one was hand-addressed and it’s really late for them to be recruiting people, esp. over PSAT stuff. martini - let’s hope that they’re hinting at you being accepted!

my brother received a likely letter last year. he’s white and he did not apply EA. there was a course catalog in the likely letter packet they sent him, so i think the course catalog is a good sign.

omg the Blue Book <3
that is one sexy book.

I’m making love to it as we speak. Sweet sweet admissions love. Man, I’ve never felt so bad about feeling so good…

I’m really happy for you. Congrats.

Congratulations. I guess it means you will have double the euphoria once accepted, no?
