Do UCs have feeder schools?

So I was considering going to Citrus community college then to UCLA possibly but I was wondering if it would affect my chances since it is does have as many acceptance as say Santa Monica college.

You can look at this link which shows # of transfers by CC:

In my opinion, I think Santa Monica College seems to have way more acceptances than a lot of other schools because a lot of their students actually apply for UCLA. I don’t think it would necessarily affect your chances. I was offered transfer admission to both UCLA and USC and my community college was located in East Los Angeles. If you perform well and meet the requirements, I don’t really believe the CC makes a significant difference; I don’t think you have to go out of your way to attend SMC - Citrus should do.

Many students do want to stay nearby, so UCs and CSUs tend to get heavier application volume from nearby community colleges. In turn, community colleges often match their course offerings more closely with those of nearby UCs and CSUs.

Keep in mind while feeder schools appear to be tossing everyone under the sun to the designated UC, looking at all the stats provides a different picture.

For instance, SMC appears to be the obvious choice to UCLA, based on raw transfer numbers. But the reality is only 34% of 2015 SMC applicants were accepted and 66% were declined admission. (These figures are conistent in previous years.) Other CCCs have higher admit percentages to UCLA, although the raw numbers would imply otherwise. And there is often a waitlist for required courses at feeders.

That doesn’t mean to skip a feeder, because especially with complicated majors like engineering, they often have more courses and the advisors generally (not always) are more knowledgable. But usually most of the CCCs can get you to the UC of your choice. It all depends on GPA and requirements completed. The point is feeders are not the end all and be all.

Also, check various CCCs on assist to see the course listings available.

Here’s a CCC → UCLA list from 2015. Be sure to eyeball admit rate.
