<p>im planning on getting a internship at a downtown hospital soon, and it will be unpaid. does that also count as volunteer work?</p>
<p>i just went to my local hospital to try to volunteer, but they do not accept volunteers during the summer. I want to volunteer in some medical related field, so does anyone have any ideas of where i should look? thanks!</p>
<p>My D contacted a local children’s hospital and specifically asked about observing in acute care physical therapy. She’s considering getting a Doctor degree in PT so this observation is required at most schools. She put in nearly 80 hours there last summer while taking 2 summer school classes and was completely inspired by the experience.</p>
<p>She is still thinking about the DPT degree, but also considering med school now. Because this summer of experience was in a hospital, AND was an unpaid volunteer internship, she’s been told it would be viewed as both exposure to the medical field and for volunteer work.</p>
<p>She also volunteered in an alternative therapies cancer center while studying abroad (again, unpaid). Hopefully, some day she will actually work somewhere that will pay her something :)</p>
<p>Also, most hospitals will require a TB test within the past year. And some (maybe all) may require proof of hepatitis shots as well.</p>
