Do we love Google & Sesame Street?

Yay–I have a soft spot for Sesame Street. The Google doodles since last Wednesday have been Sesame Street characters, in honor of the 40th anniversary. Huffington Post is polling for favorites and Cookie Monster is winning! (sorry, due to user incompetence, I’m not copying the url correctly!) Go Cookie (and Oscar is in 2nd place)!

I’ve been watching the Google things too…very cute. LOVE Oscar. Cookie Monster was good too…but Oscar has always been my all time favorite.

The Count is my favorite.

At least this time I know what Google’s special home pages are about.

Usually, I have no idea until I click on it. :(

I had been wondering why the characters were appearing on the Google page until I heard about the 40th anniversary. My college junior son said guess which Sesame Street character roommate was for Halloween. Me - “cookie Monster?” Him - “No, mom, The Count, get it?” Roommate is a math major. Got it.

I think Grover was one of my favorites.

I used to enjoy watching Sesame Street (or at least parts of it) with my kids. I loved Elmo - he was so cute! A few weeks ago, I went to this exhibit [James A. Michener Art Museum: Jim Henson’s Fantastic World](http://www.michenermuseum.org/exhibits/henson.php) in Doylestown, PA. Jim Henson was a remarkable man who died too young.

I’ve been enjoying them too. My D loved Sesame Street. “Oshk” was one of her first words. It meant Oscar the Grouch of course!

Sesame Street didn’t have the hand puppets in the castle right? I forget which show that was with the King, Queen and the little boy hand puppets and the train.

That was Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood.

Awww, today’s Google home page is so cute - all of the characters together!

One of my accounting classes laughed at me/with me last Wednesday when I turned the teaching station on and accessed the internet. Google is the homepage and when it popped up with Big Bird’s legs, I just stared for a second and went “oh…, so many good memories…”. Completely unexpected reaction! I love Google’s little homages to such occasions as anniversaries and holidays.

I have more memories of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood and Romper Room. I must be older than all of you combined.

^^No, you’re not, ebeeee. I also remember Romper Room. But I did have the great pleasure of watching Sesame Street when it first started, as I babysat my little cousin. And then of course watched it with my own. I loved (and still do!) the fact that it’s written for kids and adults at the same time, and you don’t want to tear your hair out the 20th time you watch that video or rerun! There’s always some new nuance to find.

Miss Vicki never saw me in her Magic Mirror.

Loved Sesame Street! Especially as a kid who lived in a city neighborhood, stoops and all.

I remember watching Romper Room and listening very, very carefully for my name. I thought it was Miss Barbara(?) who finally said my name. Ahhhh . . .

I also remember watching Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. “Happy Trails” is still one of my favorite songs! I taught my kids that you want to disarm the bad guy, not kill him - just like Roy.

I watched Sesame Street everyday with my kids. What a great show. Grover is my absolute favorite. There’s just something about him that is so lovable to me. DS had an Ernie doll that he slept with every night when he was little. DD’s very first laugh came while she was watching the Honkers. I was holding her in my arms and she leaned over backwards to watch them honk. Everytime they honked, she laughed. It still brings tears to my eyes thinking of that day. Such good memories.

Also loved watching Sesame St. with my kids growing up. I get to re-live it because I am now caring for my nephew (ok, he’s really my great-nephew) while his parents work. Today we saw the season premiere of the 40th season. It was awesome, new opening scenes and the first segment featured Big Bird and most of the ‘older’ cast, including Gordon, Susan, Maria, Luis and Bob, along with ‘newer’ characters, Chris, Leela, Alan, Gina and Gabby. So glad I have an ‘excuse’ to watch.

Don’t feel badly, YDS, you were not alone - she never saw me, either!

One of my favorite memories is of taking the kids to see Bob, live in concert. Both kids loved Elmo, Bert and Ernie, and Big Bird. They did not care for Oscar, and always wanted to know why he was so mean!

The downside of my unusual name. :(

My kids loved Sesame Street Live. My employer had a deal where we got tickets to a special reception before the show where the characters came. Oh, my kids loved it, but some kids went under the tables! lol

I thought the Romper Room lady never called my name because I lived in a tiny rural town and she didn’t know where it was. Not that she ever mentioned towns, just how I rationalized it in my preschool mind I guess.

I give Sesame St. 100% of the credit for teaching S1 the alphabet. He would sit glued to the screen every a.m. He recognized every letter before his second birthday.
I was surprised because I had never even tried to teach him ABC’s, It suddenly dawned on me that Sesame St. was the source of his education.

S2 of course, had zero interest in Sesame St. I was so disappointed.

Grover was always my favorite too. Remember when he wore the red cape and was Super Grover?
