I am transferring to from a community college to CSUN as a Kinesiology/Biomechanics major, and I have 4 W’s.

One of them have been re-done for an A, but the other 3 have not been re-done.
However, I am over the 70 unit transfer cap for CSUN, and the classes that I have W’s in are completely irrelevant to my IGETC and my major pre-reqs.

I am worried that these W’s will transfer and my graduate school/program will look at these negatively.

I have used the search function, but can’t quite find an answer as to how and which W’s transfer, or if they even transfer in the first place?

I appreciate any advice or clarification. Thank you for your time.

No, they don’t transfer. Your CC courses are only taken as articulation/credit/a marker to tell the undergrad school you finished class X so you can be exempt or take upper division courses. The same goes for your GPA. Once you finish your first semester you get a “CSU only” GPA which is essentially starting anew. When you graduate you’ll have two transcripts, your CC transcript with it’s own GPA, and the 4-year university transcript with only courses taken there.

Grad schools will look at your transcripts for your CC and CSU/UC/where ever you transfer to. Depending on what kind of grad school you’re going into (engineering, physics, LAC, etc) they may or may not look down upon your CC W’s. I know med school looks down on it but some engineering schools could not care less about your CC W’s (but they will look at your W’s at the school you transfer to) and mainly look at GPA/essay/EC’s.

Thanks for the reply.

I intend on applying to Physical therapy school, specifically DPT program. (Doctorate in Physical Therapy)

If the graduate school does look into the W’s, is it a major red-flag to them? Or is it something they just observe?

I think that really depends on the school. Some will allow 1-2 without a reason but usually anything after that will require an explanation or something in the essays/apps. I’m not really too familiar with med school though, I just know that they care to some extent :
