I just asked H, who is very much a jokester, what he thought our song was. He said “You Shook Me All Night Long” (AC / DC) Don’t worry, I called him a pig and punched him for all of you.
For the one who got away in high school: “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” (Beach Boys)
For the one who got away after that: “Til I Gain Control Again” (Emmylou Harris)
In all seriousness, H and I routinely do “iPad concerts” where we read about a band / singer on Wikipedia and then look for YouTube videos of performances, ideally either live or original video, and play in chronological order. We will do any band / genre / time frame that strikes our fancy and it’s really fun IMO to rediscover some of those great old songs / singers (like a Jim Croce). Last night, we did the Moody Blues and Electric Light Orchestra. Tonight - who knows?
We don’t have “one” (I just asked H and he’s like–I’m not touching that question, even though I told him there wasn’ta “wrong” answer), but we agree that one of our earliest was Nilsson’s “The Lottery Song.” (Look it up; it’s adorable.)
They. Played the song from “terms of Endearmend” as we walked down the aisle https://m.youtube.com/watch?autoplay=1&v=JiaLjsaVT0A. And come to think of it, I think we did dance to “in your eyes” as our first dance.
My husband is really clueless when it comes to music so , no we do not have a song …but I do share songs with my sisters over some funny memories we have.
Oddly , one of them was immediately following our step-father’s funeral. His name was Maurice , but it was pronounced " Morris " . My youngest daughter asked me why the pastor pronounced his name like " More-eese "
I explained to her that some people called him Maurice ( Morris ) and some More-eese…my sister then chimed in that some called him " the gangster of love " as in the Steve Miller song ," the Joker"
Now , every time one of us hears that song , we all think of him and get a little laugh.
No “song” for us. I can’t even think of a particular song that was really popular when we met or first got together.
I’m glad we don’t have a song, because DH is the absolute worst singer I’ve ever known. Completely tone death. As a former musician, I probably wouldn’t be able to get past that if he was always singing it to me when it came on the radio.
The best vacation we ever took was to Bora Bora. The hotel had furnished us with a Diana Krall CD, which we played a lot in the thatched hut on stilts over the lagoon. So when we hear any of those songs, we do go back to that great time and feel a little nostalgic.
This is the song I associate with H, but I don’t know if it rises to “our song.” We had been dating just a few weeks and went dancing at our college’s dance marathon. Now H is the dorkiest white-boy dancer there is, but I was young and in love and it was just very endearing. Anyway, this song - a great boppy dance song - came on and it was while we were dancing to it I looked at him
and realized I was in love. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Oy625sZAHN8
Our first dance at our wedding was Van Morrison Have I Told You Lately…before Rod Stewart butchered it. Hubby is very into music…he’ll tell me when songs remind him of us…like Collide, come and get high, sister golden hair.
Funny, my husband just came into the room singing “it was just my imagination.” But “our song” is “Have I told you lately” (that according to @eyemamom is the butchered version) by Rod Stewart.
We had a very very small wedding, and no dancing, but we still identify that as our song.
Hmmmm, a lot of you had better musical taste than I did that young. Sung at our wedding: For Bobby ( the John Denver version before Mary Travers turned it into a song about her daughter). “Our Song” that we always got up and danced to: Color my World by Chicago.
If we had a song it would have been one of those naughty misognistic Rolling Stones songs like “Under my thumb”. We will always dance to a Stones song. Though last night it was “Wild Horses” which is about as undancable as they get!
Some awesome answers here! And many have brought back such fond memories. So after reading some answers I went back through my iTunes to see if anything stood out to me. Several did (including a couple mentioned here), but as we (H and I) get older, I think Anniversary Song by Cowboy Junkies is pretty spot on - it was written after we met and were married, though.
We just finally got our new speakers hooked up at the new place, and I’ve so much enjoyed listening to music the last few days, much more than I did in our old place, so I’m going to go back and pay more attention to some of the older songs and see if I can find one that was written before we met that we might have heard before we got married.
Our song, while dating was an oldie (for us). So happy together, by The Turtles. Love the lyrics!
First dance at wedding…Heaven, by Bryan Adams. And no Hear Comes the Bride…yuck. Princess Diana’s grand walk down the aisle to Trumpet Voluntary in F made me feel like a princess. (Although my tiara was not as lovely (or real) as hers).
