do you believe in ghosts ?

Here is a little lighthearted story that I hope is amusing to some of you who are feeling the stress of the holidays and or waiting for college decisions.

My husband and I bought an old building about 6 yrs ago and renovated it for our business. It was a wreck , and we have been told if we didn’t begin work on her when we did, the roof may have collapsed with the weight of the snow that winter. We renovated it from the ground up. The previous owner was an elderly woman who operated a sort of variety store from there for many years…although we passed it everyday, we had no idea it was even open for business because the windows were boarded shut…anyway , to make a long story short , she passed away in the building 7 yrs ago , right about this time of year.

For the last 6 yrs we have had many experiences with anything from the chairs in office upstairs rolling around , to doors opening and slamming shut , over and over again in rapid succession. A few of our workers think they have seen her…our bookeeper is the one who has the most " visits" from her when she is working at night.

Well today, a gentleman came in for business and while he was with my husband, he mentioned that he heard that we have a ghost…just then, our TV ( which is on a wall mount high enough to need a ladder to touch it ) turned on all by itself ! This is the second time this has happened in the last few weeks…we also no longer have a remote for it.
Well that guy went home with a fun story for his family tonite !!

At my book club meeting last week, we were talking about ghost stories – similar tales as yours. I hear about things like this, and I don’t know what to believe. The logical part of my mind thinks there’s no such thing as ghosts, but a part of me does wonder…

I have heard too many stories like yours to be able to say definitely I don’t believe. I guess I believe there are many things we don’t understand and many possibilities in the universe.

I have personally had only one experience with her ( we do know her name too )
I went upstairs to where our bookeeper works and when I walked into the office, the door leading to the area we use as storage slammed shut…no windows open or any draft. We just looked at each other like " what just happened ? " that is when she told me that when she is up there working alone at night, the same door will open ,slam, open, slam …over and over again.

The area on the other side of the door is where she passed away.
My husband was downstairs painting one night last year when he heard the office chairs rolling around upstairs…we have a shop cat and he heard it too , because they both followed the sound with their eyes …
Two of our workers think they have seen her and got a little freaked out. People have told us to have a medium come in to check it out, but we really don’t want her to leave.

A ghost is what you make of it.

^^^^What does that mean?^^^^

I believe in ghost/spirits of the departed, whatever, though thankfully, I’ve never had an encounter with one. I know a number of people who have, however, whose credibility ranks high with me. Your story is quite creepy, lje. I’d definitely want the old broad to vacate the premises! Have you ever tried to address her directly, inform her that she’s dead and should “follow the light”, “head for the other side”, or just tell her you want her to stop the shinanigans? I guess you haven’t, seeing as you really don’t want her to leave—LOL! Slamming doors and sudden television interruptions would definitely unnerve me, though, especially if I were alone in the building. Some spirits have supposedly been know to become more “adamant” in their communications as time goes on (which has sometimes resulted in persons being physically assaulted). I know that sounds absolutely nuts—the whole “ghost” thing does as a matter of fact. But just because we don’t understand something doesn’t mean it isn’t real.:o

poetsheart , although it sounds odd , we aren’t bothered by her and I wasn’t even scared when I had my encounter. It seems like the happenings aren’t as frequent as time passes by. She was a woman who collected cats and when she passed ,several live and dead cats had to be removed from the building. We figure that since we have a shop cat, she must sort of like us.
When we first went into the building with the realtor, it was such a dilapitated mess that it is a wonder we bought it in the first place. All windows were boarded shut and the only source of light was one lightbulb hanging from a wire in the ceiling. A door slammed when we were there, though we couldn’t really tell where it was in the dark. I didn’t go back ino the structure again until renovations began…not out of fear, but because it was a little too dark, messy and it wreaked !
Only two people that seemed to have an encounter with her got spooked…one who thought he heard a voice and the other who thought she looked out the window while he was stacking firewood !

She was probably angry that you were in her building. Sometimes these spirits don’t really understand that they are “dead” and that they need to move on. If the incidents escalate or become frightening, you should have the building cleansed. A psychic medium can help them to leave, and to move on to where they should be.
But if they are less frequent you may not need to bother. You could speak to her and invite her to stay, but ask her to not frighten people or be so noisy, etc.

I do believe in ghosts and a lot of people in my culture do. This is one reason why a lot of people put a premium on new houses.

When my Dad was dieing in the hospital, his 2nd wife became very upset because Dad was talking to a person name John and having an in depth conversation. She told us the story that next day. John was my grandfather and there were things that Dad told us that not even my Mom knew about only my grandmother did. My parents were divorced for about 15 yrs when this happened and to say it wasn’t amicable is an understatement. I def believe that my grandfather was there.

There is a ghost of a chance that any of this stuff is true.

I work in a building that was previously a hospital, Yep, we’ve got ghosts.

And my daughter has had a definite physical encounter with a ghost - she was tickled by the ghost of a child.

Best ghost-sighting towns? In my experience, Galveston and Savannah.

In some cases, ghosts or other hauntings can be explained by carbon monoxide leaks. It wouldn’t turn your TV on, but carbon monoxide poisoning can cause hallucinations, emotional disturbances, chilliness, depression, feelings of dread, agitation, vision changes, dizziness, headaches, etc. Many haunted houses turned out to have carbon monoxide leaks. Some ghost trackers and paranormal societies urge people who think their house is haunted to first get their house checked for carbon monoxide levels.

“a ghost is what you make of it”^^^^What does that mean?^^^^

A ghost is a mixture of a natural occurence and a fertile imagination—its what YOU make of it.

My rational mind doesn’t want to believe in ghosts, but I think there are a lot of things in the universe we don’t understand. I’d be creeped out by a door that continuously opens and slams with no visible reason!
