Do you carry proof of citizenship when riding the bus on a domestic trip?

I just carry my DLicense in my wallet. When I gave my wallet, it’s there. When I don’t have my wallet, generally I don’t carry ID. Passports are bulkier and more hassle if they are lost. I carry if I travel internationally and that’s about it.

I had to dig my green card, passport, birth certificate, marriage certificate out of their safe place to take to the social security office yesterday because I couldn’t sign up online for Medicare due to being a green card holder and they needed all that plus proof I have lived here at least 5 years. We don’t have a SS office so I had to take an afternoon of work to travel to the nearest one (about an hour away). Got there and first guy had to go find someone who knew about such things. He looked on the computer and said they already have all of it on file that they had previously seen and verified the information when my husband signed up for SS 14 years ago so did not need to see it (kids were under 18 so we got extra SS for a couple of years). What a waste of an afternoon though the guy was very nice and helpful.

I don’t carry my green card with me as a general rule though technically am supposed to. They are so hard to get replaced and it can take a year and I don’t want to risk losing it. I have never yet been asked for it.
