Do you find this unusual ?

Is this normal for DVD player to keep spinning even when it’s not in use ?
This is the walmart DVD player hooked up to TV, not dvd in one’s car.

When I remove the DVD disc, it’s hot, very hot to the touch. And the disc could have been there for months that way without my knowing. I am not big on renting movies or playing music. This has been true to all the DVD players I owned. Is it due to the way I hooked it up to the stereo/TV ?

It can’t hardly be normal since the non-stop spinning wears everything out and might warp the disc too.

Do you have same problem ?

I don’t think it’s normal. My DVD players haven’t done this. Maybe yours is defective. You can get a decent quality DVD player from a name brand (Sony, Panasonic, etc.) for very little nowadays so I wouldn’t bother with an off-brand. Maybe you can take it back and get credit towards another player.

You live in SF and go to Walmart? :P

1st question, no.
2nd question, no.

It is normal for a disc to get a hot after playing it. As far as the disc getting hot while it’s NOT being played, that could have to do with how a car bottles up a lot of heat (especially in California).

Since your 1st question indicates out-of-normal behavior, I would return the player. First, check out reviews. I would recommend you not to get Coby or Curtis. Check out reviews for portable dvd players at sites like newegg and cnet. Buy the player online (I recommend newegg) or use craigslist (I’m betting there are tons of used and new name-brand portable dvd players for much less money than the store).

You should return the player right away. The non stop spinning not only wears everything out and might warp the disk but I would be concerned about any possibility of fire because the internal components are remaining hot. Take it back.

Return it immediately. You’re just asking for the disc to shatter with it getting hot and spinning constantly like that. A shattered disc is a Bad Thing.
