Do you guys think the admissions officer would mind . . . (supplement question)

If I poked fun at HYP in my supplement? The supplement question asks you to describe what academic, research, and/or extracurricular paths you see yourself following while at Penn. For example, I’d probably include: “One reason that Penn’s academics, research and extracurriculars all mix so well is the natural blend of academics and social life. Unlike some rivaling schools (cough) . . .”

Or could it possibly be detrimental?

It would be IMHO stupid.

Most people see you badmouth someone and wonder what your saying about them, bet thats true for admissions officers too…

That’s a valid point; mainly, I’m wondering if the competition between the upper-tier Ivy Leagues is great enough to warrant a laugh from that kind of a statement, as opposed to a frown.

No. Chances are these people may have gone to HYP, and now work for the UPenn admissions office. Poking fun at any upper level school is idiotic when applying to them. Mocking some of the top schools in the world even more so. Don’t resort to cheap blows, its not going to get you anywhere.

^^^ Agreed

I see you’re a Harvard student. ;)

But seriously, I don’t know how I overlooked that fact. Thanks for the help, I must not be functioning correctly in this last week of ED.

upper-tier Ivy - (?)

Well, admissions officers at the best schools attend many of the same events as other good schools, and often they were graduates of the very same other very good schools. They are more likely to view other schools admissions officers as colleagues than someone to be made fun of because they represent the other “rival” school…

Admissions officers know students and and applicants think in terms of ra-ra-rivals and not colleagues, so they will forgive you, but I don’t think you will impress them or that they will think you are overly funny…

yeah the problem with **** talking another ivys here is that many people have close friends at other schools/applied to other schools or in general like them. as for instructors a lot of instructors have taught at other schools or studied there and the same goes for other faculty. save the insults for football games or when you’re drunk dialing that kid you never liked who is now going to _______

Yep, I’m Crimson through and through. :)
