Do you have a "resource hog" in the family? LOL

Has anyone noticed that when you take your DH or your DS or your DD with grocery shopping you always wind up spending x amount more money then you would had you gone solo??? Every time my BF and I go together (We don’t live together, but we do occasionally joint-grocery shop) I seem to come home with so much extra food then had I gone by myself.

When my brother used to shower, my mom would set a timer for 20 minutes. If the water was still running at that point, my dad would turn off the hot water. :p

Oh yes, that’s a given! LOL

Kids get spoiled with on-campus housing…endless hot water. My kids would like us to get a tankless water heater for our home…LOL…not happening until the present one dies.

I’m glad I’m not the only one. Some how last week I went to the store to buy 1 thing (Apples) and came home with 3 bags of groceries. I just shook my head. “Oh, I used all your pepper on dinner the other night. you better get some more. oh, and your salt is running low too”. “oh, and you are out of butter” “do you want tacos for dinner? lets get seasoning” “lets get salsa” “lets get the refrigerated soft taco shells, they are my favorite.”, “i ate the frozen pizza you left at my house so if you still want pizza tomorrow night we have to get another one”, etc. LOL. I think next time he goes grocery shopping I am going to tag along to add to his cart!!

We just got one a month ago,and we are having so many problems!Sometimes, the water gets cold in the middle of a shower because the gas dryer is on ,diverting the gas from tankless heater. It has already ended many showers. Until this is resolved,I shower only at the gym!The tankless heater is awesome to look at-very futuristic!!tHE PLUMBER IS COMING TOMORROW!!It works well to curb those urges for long showers!

Yikes! Good to know…what brand do you have?

I have to admit - I’m the hog in our family…I hog the remote control. especially now since the kids are out of the house. Free to watch whatever I want. ** insert evil laugh here…

fauxmaven–I am in awe of your housing situation that allows 20-30 socks to be lost and then found. :D

Well, figure 4 kids,4 beds,2 couches-you do the math !The heater is a Japanese one but China son is sleeping.Don’t want to wake him.I think problem is not heater, but inadequate gas pipe. When gas is diverted to another source, water turns cold .Starts with an “N”

Our tankless heater is great. You never run out of hot water, as long as you’re the only person taking a shower. However, as fauxmaven has noted, you can’t do a lot of hot water things at the same time.

In the summer 2 showers can run and both get hot water. But in the winter, when our hot-water-baseboard heat is working, only one can shower at a time or both showers become lukewarm. But one person can start their shower the second the other person stops, and we won’t run out of hot water. Also can’t run the dishwasher or washing machine while someone is showering.

But most of the time it’s not an issue, and we can have 10 people take showers in a row without running out of hot water.

DD1 is definitely a resource hog in some ways. She has to have insurance on her cellphone because they are constantly breaking, when we go to visit her at college she will have a long list of places she needs to go (she doesn’t have a car) such as Target, Trader Joes, Nordstroms, etc… She wants a Coach purse, Tiffany’s jewelry, Juicy Sweats, etc… And she is very picky about what we eat, what we watch on TV, etc… DS2 is high maintenance medically. Nothing too serious but has broken a bone 4 times (requiring 4 orthopedic surgeries), had stitches 3 times, had very serious pneumonia when he was little, has allergies and asthma, had two teeth growing into his head rather than into his mouth requiring oral surgery and a very long time in braces, and is currently battling acne. But, when we go to visit him at college we say “anywhere you need to go?” “no” , “anything you need?” “no”, my mom even offered him cash when she visited and he said that he didn’t need it. DS3 is SUPER low maintenance. Asks for nothing. He wears mostly hand-me-downs from his brother and bigger friends, has never had a new bike (we have offered but he says the old one in the garage works great), if you don’t notice that his shoes are worn out, he won’t tell you, and he is the happiest kid I have ever met.

tx5athome–Don’t you love the third/youngest child? :D

In our case it was #4 who was youngest. I don’t recall him ever whining about anything.

Come to think of it, he was the anti-Resource Hog. Cheerfully took all the hand-me-downs.
