I’ve heard that recurring dreams about natural disasters like tsunamis, tornados, etc happen when we feel like there is something negative in our lives that we feel powerless to change.
Moths. Not so much the little fluttery white ones that dance over the grass in the summer, but the big grey hairy ones that lie in wait near the porch light, or on screened windows trying to get in . . .
In elementary school, I became ill with high fever. That was the first time I experienced the rope bridge dream. I am standing in the middle of a swaying rope bridge spanning a deep chasm. There is heavy fog, with visibility reduced to feet. I am aware something is on the rope bridge with me. The direction to take in order to flee the dangerous something concealed in fog is unclear, causing anxiety. I wake up at that point. Not a fan of bridges.
I really don’t like even the possibility of icy roads. I drive incredibly slow on them and drives H crazy. But hiking mountains or driving on mountain roads normally is not a problem.
I have a recurring dream about there being waterfalls all around and we’re about to go over one to our death.
The weird thing is I love waterfalls and we go out of our way to see them - any size. We had a small two footer on our property where I grew up and I loved playing in and around it. Our next dream trip is to Victoria Falls - but I won’t be doing the “Devil’s Pool” on top of the falls no matter how safe it’s supposedly been! Since we’ll be paying for the trip, none of my family members will be allowed to do it either.
Yes! And I agree. I think you are right.
Mosquitoes.
I read so much about avoiding them that I joke I’m a mosquito-ologist. Won’t sleep if I’ve seen one (I’m too good at spotting them.) It’s why I run the bedroom cold. Or use a fan when we eat outside. Or break out in a sweat if I have to sleep in a room with no circulating air.
Ironically, my body temp is lower, so others get bitten more. This became a problem when I lived in SF. Those skeeters made a dive bombing sound when approaching, it would wake me up.
Btw, since they’re hard to whack, I use my stick vacuum when I can, to track and suck them up.
I’d say all this counts as phobia.
I have no phobia about bugs (cockroaches, water bugs, flies…), but I have a real fear about mice/rats. As a kid I could never touch a class mouse pet.
I also have a fear of running out of things, which was not good for this pandemic. The idea of not having shampoo, dish detergent, shoes, clothes…or anything I should need at any given moment makes me nervous. I think this has to do with my childhood experience. On the flip side I also dislike clutter. I have no problem throwing out stuff that I do not need.
D2 has a fear of pigeons. Not birds in general, just pigeons.
