Do you have any questions? I'm an Elon mom!

My D is a senior at Elon. My S is a sophomore at another school but he has a friend from HS that did the Dublin program last year. Don’t have a lot of details but I heard from his dad that he really enjoyed it. Made some good friends so it was pretty easy to transition when he got to Elon.

Thanks!

Was the Global Start program some thing he applied for initially?

for Elon College Fellows (or any Fellows for that matter), what kind of questions have they asked in the past in the interviews? Thanks in advance!

My son got into the same program but I have concerns about getting into Elon after Dublin as they need to meet a certain GPA. In the information session they said 75% of the kids met the requirement so they can continue in spring. It didn’t sound like it is easy to get that gpa (2.7 sounds low to me) from the percentage of kids they shared

hi! im a high school senior who got into elon as a change makers scholar- i absolutely adore everything about the school (the only thing that makes me a little nervous is the prominence of greek life, im a very laid back non party person and trying to escape that whole party culture) but im also hesitant to commit to elon bc of the offers im getting from more “prestigious” LAC in the northeast. one of my biggest pros for elon is the weather, i live in ny and hate the cold, and i love the sunny welcoming vibes i get from the south. i know its stupid, but i feel hesitant about committing to an “easier” school when i have the option to go somewhere more impressive, even if it doesn’t check as many boxes. did anyone else struggle with this? i know in my heart elon is the place for me, but i need to be talked out of this mindset.

Hello! I transferred into Elon after initially choosing my “more prestigious” option and I have absolutely no regrets. Elon has a great balance of academics and social life. While greek life is big, there are definitely lots of other options for socializing and partying is not a necessity. There are always University sponsored events happening and lots of people prefer them over parties anyways. My friends and I regularly go to Bingo. If you haven’t, check out the Student Union Board on Instagram and see some of the opportunities they offer. There are also student orgs for literally any interest you can imagine. My point is that you don’t have to be in greek life to meet people or have fun, even if a lot of people are. Academically, most people I know are very driven and passionate about what they’re studying. Elon is unique because of its focus on experiential learning which, for me, has let me engage more with my courses than I did at my previous school. There are also many academic resources such as the writing center and peer tutoring. Plus, class sizes are small and there are always opportunities to meet with professors either in office hours or even over coffee or a meal paid for by the University. On Sundays, the library sets out snacks and invites students to come hang out and study together, which is another great opportunity to meet like-minded people and a great example of how academics are still important here. Overall, I love Elon and transferring was the best option for me. I would be happy to answer any questions you have!
