I have both Insta and FB. FB is for my F&F to see what I’m up to and for me to see what my friends’ kids are up to.
IG for me is great to follow home decorators, foodies or hair and makeup people without going on Pinterest (I refuse). I follow some celebrities I find interesting. I keep a Twitter account as well mainly to get news
Facebook for me is about the groups I follow. A few pictures from friends and relatives but mostly recipes and fitness.
I like a few others, love instagram. It’s easy and fun. I don’t post often because I don’t have many followers. People my age use Facebook so I will post pictures there. But I follow some bloggers, artisans and young people. Instagram stories are fun.
About 6 months ago I would have said that Snapchat was where it’s at. I’m in a group Snapchat with my D, niece and sister. And we communicate through that, it’s very interactive. But Snapchat updated their app and now it stinks. I still don’t like it and I think it’s not used as much. People are just using Instagram stories now.
I never use my instagram. Set it up to see s’s posts. I just made mine private and deleted a few folks I don’t know who had been “following” me. Creepy.
I have Instagram and love the easy and lighthearted speed. I mostly post food (I use it as a visual recipe folder) and pretty photos for F&F to see snippets of daily life as we are all far from each other. I follow them, and a couple entities related to interests. My family has a FB group we use for lots of things.
@CALSmom Why no love for pinterest?
I have both FB and Instagram. They are both fun, and both can drive me a little crazy for different reasons.
FB got very political for a couple of years, although I see fewer friends posting or re-posting political stuff lately. The comments under articles get crazy quickly, but for me that has been a good lesson on identifying “real” people versus bots and that word we cant use here.
The good parts of facebook include the private groups that I’m a member of, including one that I’m the administrator of. That part of facebook privides a good service that Instagram can not do.
Instagram is very visual, and can be a relaxing place to scroll through pretty or stimulating photos, but it is also a highly currated space. I get tired of looking at perfect shots of perfect looking people (many of whom are friends who aren’t perfect in real life) who are trying to build a “brand”. Instagram sometimes feels like a long scrolling set of personal advertisements.
I love taking photos, so Instagram is purely artistic for me. If you use a lot of hashtags, random people will find your photos, so I follow and am followed by some people I’ve never met, all around the world. I just like their visual sensibilities. And it’s less intrusive for family and friends. For the most part I find the stories annoying.
Facebook I use differently, to keep up with family and friends, share family photos and events. And a few private groups.
Twitter I use for news and politics, mostly following, seldom posting.
