Do you have to minor in a language to put "fluent in X" on your resume?

If I want my future employers to know that I’m fluent in Chinese should I take a minor in that?

You don’t have to.

Nah, I mean if you’re already fluent in it because of your background or whatever, that’s sufficient. I could be fluent in Urdu, but they don’t offer that as a minor so ya that would be restrictive lol. Hope that helps!

I don’t think you’ll be tested right there on the spot unless it’s relevant. Put it down, if they ask for proof, then do whatever they need to prove you are fluent (i.e. speak it, write it, read it, etc.).

no, but be careful. If you claim you are fluent in something, they might interview you in that language.

but nah, you cant because people are raised speaking 2 languages (different ethnicities of parents) or are immigrants or something.
