Do you have to send Frosh year in?

I know Stanford doesnt consider the freshmen year, so do you even need to send them in? Can you just ask your guidence counsler to not put it on your transcript or maybe take a magic marker and cross it out-FBI style?

Does it hurt to not send in your frosh year? Do they think you just did really bad and that is why you didnt send it in?
(The perils of not sending something in-if you don’t send it, they assume you did badly.)

Just send it in. They don’t factor it in anyway. If you didn’t do badly, then why worry? Or, if you did do “badly,” they will see that you’re honest and not hiding anything from them, and probably also some significant improvement in the span of your HS career. I don’t see the harm in sending in your freshman grades.

What if my bad freshman grades ruin my class rank? How important is class rank in admissions? Would it be fine if I’m still top 10%? Even if I had incredible sophomore and junior years, would it hurt me that I’m not in the top 5%?

for school like stanford, can we ask our counselors to rank us without freshmen year?

If you messed up freshman year it will probably hurt your class rank. On the other hand, the people in the admissions office will see that you did less well freshman year and realize that that’s what brought down your rank. If they are really worried, they could always call your GC and ask how you rank if you don’t consider freshman year. I don’t think it’s really that big of a deal. If you get all As soph/junior year in hard classes for example, they know you would rank well if not for freshman year.

Then they’d have to rank every other kid in your class without freshman year…

yea but its a small school, like 60 ppl =o

and also on the app when they ask for your rank, they ask your gc to specify what years theyre basing it on.

jason, Stanford specifically asks for 10-12 rank (if it is available). Our school has 10-12 available, so that rank was used for everyone that applied to Stanford.

Also, there was no option: you couldn’t use 9-12 if you preferred.
