In the essay section, do you include line numbers from which the quotations are from? If so, do you do it like “(24)”, “(line 24)”, or write it out like “as shown in line 24”, etc?
I’m writing tomorrow’s SAT so someone please let me know asap!
I use paragraph numbers, but if you are okay with counting lines and limiting your time writing the actual essay, I guess it’s fine. Most people don’t prefer it since they cannot multitask while reading the article or have enough time to go back and number every single line. It’s a tedious task. I say go by paragraph numbers.
I’ve looked through quite a number of SAT sample essays, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen an essay with line or paragraph numbers. You don’t need it to get a full score (and I didn’t do it because it does use some of your time), but if you want to do it then I’d say to go with paragraph since counting lines would be pretty tedious.
It’s not necessary at all.
No, there is no need to do that at all. Simply write, “the author states…” or whatever you want to write. They know you are referring to the text, and they know exactly what that text is. They are not going to check for line references and in fact would probabaly find them distracting.
