Remember how they were all the rage in the early to mid 90’s? I never really used them much, and displayed them for just a few years…got rid of all but 3 several years ago. They have been in the storage basement for years…never used.
I’m decluttering down there…getting rid of tons of stuff. These baskets take up a lot of room, especially since I don’t use them. What have you done with yours? Sems a hassle to sell through the Internet, I suppose I could sell them cheap on neighborhood website.
Well, my name is somewhat of a throw back to my basket days. Longaberger and just baskets in general - like/liked them for storage purposes!
I have kept a few but have sold some too. I will tell you that they are “a dime a dozen” so to speak on ebay, at resale/antique shops, etc. For the most part they are worth no where worth what their cost was. My H does some selling on eBay so no big deal to put them up there for me.
I’m a little curious which ones you have you want to get rid of!!! Maybe thing about how you can use them not decoratively (all the liners and that business) and more how you might actually use them productively - to store things in.
For instance, on my counter in the kitchen near the sink I have a smaller one that has a few little bottles of ibuprofen, vitamins, etc. that we use daily. I have one that is in the living room that I drop any Christmas cards in that come - any of the rest of the family can check there to see what cards have come and then come January, I toss them!
A very large one I have was the home for my D2’s backpack and random school folders, etc. She liked to study in a certain area of the house so that became her “station” for her stuff.
Do they still hold Longaberger parties? My mom had a huge collection and when they downsized, asked me to sell them on eBay, but as noted above, they were a dime a dozen, so we didn’t bother. We practically gave them away at a sale.
Wow- I have one Longaberger basket that my MIL purchased as a gift for me at a “party” long ago. Fortunately, it is a tiny one, meant to hold teabags. Still use it. She was stunned by how pricey they were.
Funny to see this - after not having thought about these baskets in years - this literally just happened yesterday! Our dog died a month ago, and I used to keep all his supplies (comb, extra bandannas, dog shampoo, treats, heartworm tablets, extra leashes, etc) in a Longaberger basket in a cabinet in our family room. We are not getting another dog and so I was decluttering and gave the basket to my H and said - take it to your workplace, let anyone with a dog take what they like. He asked if that included the basket, too!
Check out the wikipedia page of the Longaberger headquarters - pretty cool.
One is a bread basket and it just takes too much room in my kitchen for the infrequent times I would use it. But when it’s in the basement…you forget about it and packed away seems too much hassle to retrieve. i think I’m going to just say goodbye to them…I really have never used them in 20 years.
We have gifted with several. Most recently, we got a lovely ceramic loaf pan that I’m regifting to a friend who loves cooking and baking (I rarely bake). She also on a different occasion gifted us with a Longaberger ceramic covered mini-cassarole dish, which is perfect for dips or small leftovers, especially since it microwaves well.
I avoid baskets and regift any ASAP because they tend to attract insects in HI.
I believe my friend likes Longeberger because she has been told purchases benefit American Cancer Society, tho they’d benefit much more by direct donations.
Yep we still use maps because we like to plan out our routes and, maps have been handy for the kids college drives.
The others hold meds and the “bread” basket is our tortilla warmer.
I have a bunch…and I use them. I really like the napkin holder, and the bread basket. The divided one that holds utensils gets a lot of use in the summer. I also have a very large flat serving basket, that I use every time I have guests for dinner.
They were pricey when I bought them, but they are also really good, sturdy and nice baskets.
I have plastic liners for mine which make, them even more useful.
@abasket, based on my experience in disposing of a large portion of my household goods in the last two years in preparation for downsizing, it is very typical.
