Do YOU know anything about Chevron Horizons Training Program?

Hi, I’ve been looking into Chevron for full time employment and I came across something called the Horizons Training Program. Unfortunately, I was only able to find a limited amount of information about it online. I wanted to see if anyone has additional details about the program whether through experience or hearsay.

From a google search this is all that comes up on every site:

If you know anything about this program please share! Thank you.

This talks about the graduate program at Chevron. Tell me if you have any other questions.

EXCELLENT!!

That is an awesome brochure that gives a lot of great information about it.

Do you have any tips for a ME undergrad to break into the Petroleum Engineering program through horizons? In one section it says:

But in the table towards the bottom it shows ME’s as eligible for the Petroleum Engineering program.

Note: I have internship experience in aerospace/defense, but not oil & gas

Its going to be difficult to get into the petroleum horizons program without at least some petroleum engineering background. Petroleum engineers and reservoir engineers don’t really deal with the things you’ll learn as a mechanical engineering student. With your background you’ll probably be placed in either rotating equipment group for downstream or upstream or a facilities position. Thus the request that you had at least some previous experience. Regardless, if you want to get involved with PetEng go for Chevron then for your third assignment take a more petroleum role. You’ll probably have to finish some of the training again but its not too bad.

j89 Did you participate in the program or know anyone that did? Do you know what kind of feedback or response they had, and whether or not it was worth the 5 year commitment?

I work in oil&gas at another supermajor but was recruited heavily by Chevron at one point where I personally talked to a lot of people in this program. I also do know a couple people in this program right now.

Personally, I feel 5 years might be a bit long (I’d go with 3), but Chevron has a lot of great opportunities, internationally and domestic, after finishing the program. Plus the pay’s pretty good.
