I have spent 1/3 of the total hours I had available in a city tracing delayed baggage, thank you American Airlines. I have called every one of their available customer service numbers, left my number to be called back, opted to hold, been sent to voice mail, everything that gets you nowhere. Probably four hours of the last 10 spent bag-hunting.
Please don’t tell me why I should not have checked a bag, I had to. I have a very limited time frame to repack for a return trip, the trip home was entirely to reload and repack in an emergency situation

I remember a thread a few years ago where people shared the real numbers that got you through the wait and voicemail heck-double-hockey-sticks that you have to deal with…
Anyone know a direct number for AMerican Airlines?

Have not used personally for AA…but used Gethuman dot com for tracking lost package with USPS and the number found here worked better than the 800 number USPS listed…

My cell has now been on speaker with the “call back and you will be next” return call where I’m "next"for 110 minuted 46 seconds.
There is no bad weather where I live.
I feel so bad for the folks on the phone lines.
Giving up for the night. The folks on overnight duty don’t have any sway…

try the second number (800.433.7300) and after “baggage” start pressing “0”…and keep pressing.
I got thru (sort of) and was told my wait was 4 minutes…
worth a shot!

Yep, that’s the one. Finally got a human who explained that once they hand it off to the secondary delivery folks they have no control.
Hmmmm, I could track my Supershuttle this morning every three minutes and be waiting outside when they arrived. Big fail for American Airlines, their bag Sherpas should be held to the same standard.

Ugh, I feel for you. I had that experience a few years ago when we flew back into Boston. We were supposed to drive home to Maine, but our bags didn’t arrive with us from overseas. At least my SIL lived in the city, so we could stay with her. I called and called and called. After more than a day of this, my SIL said, “Come on, let’s go down to the airport and bug them.” So we went down, and she was like a bulldog! She wouldn’t take no for an answer. Within about 30 minutes, they had found our bags! I will never forget that experience. Inexcusable. I’m pretty sure it was American, too!

How timely, as we had to do this last week.

Call 1-800-535-5225 and press “3” during the greeting to get a human. This was from AA when their recording finally said that they found our bags and they would be delivered.

Few times when I’ve received no help, I emailed their CEO and head of customer relations directly. There was one time when they took my upgraded seats away by mistake because of computer glitch. I contacted them and got my seats back.

We just called American Airlines the other day about a cancelled flight. They gave the option of leaving a number and getting a call back. And they did call back after about 45 min. But we didn’t wait for that. Went to the airport and stood in line. It worked out. I hate airlines customer service these days. This mere 45 min. wait was one of the better experiences I have had recently. And once we got to the airport, and checked in with an actual person, things went very smoothly, which kind of surprised me, since my expectations are set pretty low these days . . .
