Do you let your emotions influence you?

And in what ways?

I read in a couple books (Koch’s “Quest for Consciousness”), (Ratey’s “A User’s Guide to the Brain” pg. 121) that emotions are a sort of device that assist in decision making. For example - people who have lost their amygdala (known as the emotional center of the brain) have Kluver-Bucy Syndrome - where people react to all stimuli without discrimination or learning.

The amygdala’s emotionally tagging (combined with one’s memories) allows us to judge and react to the world. Limbic tagging may happen through the amygdala.

Anyhow, that’s how emotions affect one’s actions. Personally, I have to say that my emotions do influence my behavior a lot (I’m quite expressive and emotional). But on the other hand - I don’t let my emotions influence my belief systems. (this explains why I tend to score as an almost perfect thinker on the MBTI).

without emotions i’d still be in the mental hospital.

with emotions i’m living in denial of my beliefs

it sucks both ways xP

I’m very unbiased towards even my best friends when they’re asking for my advice. I don’t cater to either their emotions or mine.

well my emotions do linger in the back of my head when i make decisions and stuff…
but i dont base them SOLELY on it

Nope, I make most decisions based of logic.

I make most of my decisions based on my “feelings” about the choices and different elements of the decision… I sometimes try to analyze situations, but my intuitive response to that situation is always what leads me to act.

Logic, for the most part, influences my decisions. I’m not a very emotional person, though, and have been called stoic by some, which I do agree with.

No. I am a robot. ;)

I don’t lie to make people feel better, if that’s what you mean.

I try to not let my emotions get in my way. (like letting a certain guy influence whether or not I do a summer program…)

emotions are an immediate reaction before you calm down enough to think logically about something
