I’m going to my city’s zoo fundraiser this year for the first time. It’s a fairly fancy event, so I’m excited to go, find a dress, etc. I think I found the dress and it’s strapless and floor length. I know I want to wear a rhinestone statement necklace and was thinking it would be more rounded…but I found this one! It seems it would be fun for that particular event. It’s only $35 with the earrings. I’m not sure of the shape. I don’t partucularly like it with the brides wedding dress, but I have more chest area for it to lay on I think. Opinions please!
For a zoo related fundraiser, I think it’s fun and whimsical and I’d go for it! I might just wear plain diamond stud earrings and let the necklace stand on its own, but that’s me and I think you are fine either way!
I was hoping you would chime in, PIzzagirl! Great, I think I’ll get it. I have no idea when I’d ever wear it again, but for the price, not that big a deal. I bought DH a zebra print bowtie and cummerbund. I’m sure he’ll be one of dozens, but the poor men hardly to do fun things with their tuxes.
I’m sorry, but I am going to have to dissent from the group. I love the idea of a fun, whimsical, animal-themed necklace but I personally don’t think that particular one will be flattering at all.
Those kind of “linked” statement necklaces are pretty when they lie absolutely flat against the skin; more precisely, when each link lies absolutely flat. That’s the beauty of that sort of design. I don’t think that neclace will achieve that effect because it appears stiff, not fluid. I think having something that stands away from your skin will be unflattering.
In addition, I think the way the peacock’s head and neck are situated is not all that attractive.
I am providing my honest opinion because you asked; I hope you will not be offended.
(Even if you decide to get the neckace, I strongly recommend you not wear the earrings which are wuite garish and will be aging near the face.)
Again, just one person’s opinion since you asked. I think you can find something prettier that fits with the theme!
I love the concept, but I had trouble figuring out what the necklace was supposed to be. Even after I looked at the top of the page and saw that it was supposed to be a peacock, I had difficulty finding the peacock.
Of course, this difficulty in figuring out what the necklace portrays could be a huge advantage to anyone who wants a reason to stare at your breasts for an inordinate length of time. It gives them a perfect excuse.
Hmmm…food for thought and I thank you for those comments. I don’t have much to look at in the way of a décolletage. The dress covers everything up anyway. I am now concerned about it laying flat. I almost ordered it and it comes from China. I’m always wary of that.
google necklace for strapless gown and then click on images. It is quite interesting to see how the various necklaces can change the look of the dress.
I did a really quick search of Macy’s and Nordstroms…prob not exactly what you are looking for, but def food for thought.
Look through some of these on this eBay store. I agree with @nottelling on the peacock necklace - I like the idea, but that particular necklace doesn’t work. I love the idea of a Cartier Panthere knockoff:
I saw the peacock immediately. Regarding lying flat, the model is quite slender and she’s likely wearing it tight; her clavicle “lifts” the necklace. If you don’t have a clavicle like that (I don’t!) and wear it at its longest length it should lay flat. I personally think it’s charming enough that it’s not critical that it be perfectly flat.
@Gourmetmom …those are adorable. I love the panda one. My dress is bright red. You know, I’ve never ordered anything from overseas before, so a bit apprehensive.
