Ha, we were merely in the Air Force, not the Navy, so we do not make our bed up at all. Only if we are changing the sheets or someone is coming over and we don’t want them to see our messy bed. Otherwise, we just let it stay a mess. We even use a Star Wars comforter left over from kid #2, many years ago. We obviously have no sense of decency.
We have ALWAYS slept with different sheets/comforters. H would completely hog them otherwise. I need to sleep in a cold room with a sheet and a seasonal-weight blanket/comforter (and don’t touch me! It instantly wakes me up!).
I’ve found that hotel these days aren’t using blankets, and the bed cover isn’t quilted or warm. Causes me real difficulty when it’s cold in the room. I cramp up terribly.
To answer the question, I made my bed daily before we were married. Now, not so much. I do like to air out the bed. H sleeps hot.
Yes, the bed is made daily, but only after we’ve been out of it awhile (I call it airing out).
Truth be told, if I had it my way I’d like clean sheets daily.
I like a sheet and a weather dependent cover (quilt, blanket, whatever) but only for a few minutes, then regardless of the actual weather, only a sheet. And at minimum a window cracked (when I travel solo, windows open!). And no tucked in top sheet. My love wants every blanket and to be cocooned. Every night.
Yes, every day. Well, except yesterday— as I was in the midst of paying bills and adjusting to the time zone, so spread them out all over the bed (and paid them from my ipad) and then later also folded laundry and as I was in the midst of unpacking, stuff was all over it.
I no longer use a top sheet. Instead, i use a gauze (cotton muslin) blanket. In summer I shake it and the quilt on top of it out and call the bed made. In winter I add a down comforter to the mix. No tucking anymore. I used to like everything tucked in tight but I’ve evolved.
We make our bed everyday. The one who gets up last has to make it. We have a Sleep Number split king size bed. So DH has to make it when I wash the sheets. I don’t like changing the sheets on the king sized bed. He wanted the king sized bed so I told he that he had to change the bedding when I washed the sheets. I usually get up last, so I make it. The only time that it goes unmade is if one of us is sick or had really bad night and didn’t get much sleep.
First thing in the morning every day. Get up, make bed before any thing else.
I make my bed every day, but not right away. I get up, drink coffee, eat breakfast, and scroll for a while in my pjs. When I am ready to put on work out clothes for exercising (which can be awhile if I am procrastinating), I make the bed.
I wasn’t always a consistent bed maker. I think it was the Fly Lady stuff where I read that the bed can take up 70-80% of your bedroom, so just making the bed adds lot of instant order to the space.
Your comforter would match our sheets! We have both Star Wars regular sheets and flannel for the winter!
Growing up younger S’ sheet/comforter set was H’s from middle school. Come to think of it, the comforter I sleep with was also H’s growing up. It’ll probably come with us to the nursing home.
Yes, everyday! I also make the bed in hotels and house/condo rentals. I like order. My DH doesn’t care. I also have so many pillows on my new bed that I need to put them in their place or it makes moving around the room a challenge.
I never would even think of making a hotel bed. I have recently been disappointed by hotels not cleaning the room everyday and then I have to make the bed before I go back to sleep. (What am I paying that ridiculous amount for if not for somebody to make my bed, take my trash, and clean my room - but that is probably a topic for a different thread?)
Does pulling up the covers count? Then our bed gets made every day.
My father once showed me how he made a bed when he was in the Navy. It included measuring the folds with a ruler. Thank goodness for fitted sheets!
I make it everyday. Usually after coffee. My H never makes it.
We air it out for a while and then make it. By which I mean we straighten up the covers and fluff the pillows.
I just pull up the sheets and duvet/cover. Takes all of 30 seconds and looks so much better than a jumbled mess of sheets and blankets plus keeps more cat hair on top of the covers instead of in between the sheets. The cats love to hang out on the bed.
When I was a kid we had bed spreads and I was taught some specific ways to make the bed and tuck the spread under and over the pillows so it had a nice crease. I don’t bother with that with the duvet cover on our king bed. The pillows get to air out uncovered at the top.
I have a friend who switched to two twin comforters because she and her husband had different temperature wants. She loves it. She went with a kind of paisley pattern in blue and white so you can barely tell that it is two pieces.
I hate making beds. So I’ve tried all sorts of things to get out of it.

Sleep on top of the bedspread using a personal size comforter for cover. Fold up comforter, smooth bedspread and voila! Bed done. Works best if single.

The traditional way with sheets. They never stay put, wrinkle and you can break your back tucking them in if you have a heavy mattress. Worst of all worlds in my opinion.

I ditched regular sheets totally. Now I use two identical light weight alternative down blankets in place of bottom and top sheets. The bottom one miraculously does not move around. So no tucking in sheets–just throw one on top of the mattress as bottom sheet and the matching one is your top sheet. So easy and comfy. Can use with or without a bedspread. Bedmaking is literally a tug on the top sheet and placing your pillow.
I’m being honest here, but I rarely make the bed. My husband will pull the covers over the bed if he gets a chance though. I make it when I’ve put fresh sheets on, but most of the time, I just leave the sheets uncovered and throw the blanket or duvet on later. If I have visitors and bedroom door will be open I will make it. So between changing the sheets at least every other week, or more often in the summer, and my husbands pulling up the covers, the bed is reasonably tidy half of the time.
When I was younger, I actively wondered why on earth anyone ever bothered making the bed. Why when you just mess it all up every night when you sleep? Plus, leaving it unmade helps keep dust mites at bay.
We have always made the bed daily but I think I’m especially cognizant and fussy about the appearance now because our bedroom is now on the main floor and while we could close the doors during the day (we just don’t and like them open and H’s office area is part of our large bedroom) if people stop by, I feel like the bedroom - specifically the bed should look well put together.
I will say though that our dog thinks it’s HIS bed during the day and his routine is to delicately jump up on it and then burrow himself with some gusto between the pillows and the bedspread - so he totally messes up the job!!!
Every single day. It would bother me to have to go to sleep in an unmade bed.
When we stay at our son’s house, they use the comforter-without-a-top-sheet thing and every time DH rolls over he takes the top cover with him! And I freeze! Its really cold in that room.
