Do you make your bed every day?

I was reading this article in the Wash Post today about the Scandinavian Sleep Method. This should be a gift link if I did it correctly.

Five couples tested it out and the results are spelled out in the article. One thing struck me…of the five couples, three mention they don’t make their bed every day. This surprised me. I don’t go downstairs w/o making the bed first in the morning. So I wondered, am I in the minority?

As for the sleep method, I can see how this works for some couples. We have a king bed with an oversize king comforter so don’t have an issue with one of us stealing the covers. I personally would not like the look of having two twin comforters folded, nor would I want to have to bother with that, being a daily bed maker myself.

But it did make me curious how many people actually do make their beds every day.

I make my bed everyday… before I get out of it! Easier to arrange than walking around the king bed 5 times

Every single day.

I did read his book.

It’s all about accomplishing things. Once I make the bed I figure I can accomplish everything on my list for the day.

I generally do accomplish it.

Make my bed everyday, even when I am staying at an Airbnb. My favorite thing about staying at a hotel is whenever I come back my bed is nicely made.

There is a theory that one should let their beds air out to dry due to dust mites. This was the first article that came up on a Google search, although there are many. If I am not leaving the house in the morning, I wait to make my bed until I come back to the room after breakfast. If not made in the morning for any reason, it will always be made before I go to bed. I refuse to get into an unmade bed!

@snowball i think I’ve read something about that before. I don’t make my bed until after I’ve showered, dressed, etc, but I always do it before I head downstairs for the day. So not an hour of airing out, but at least 30-45 mins. Dh gets up at least an hour earlier than me so his side is definitely aired out.

I am a pretty recent convert to making my bed, like in the past couple of years. Ds2 got me doing it. I think he heard the McRaven speech. He definitely didn’t make his bed while a teen living at home!

Everyday. I leave for work while H is still sleeping but he makes it too. He’s Al ost always the last one out of bed. It’s made most times within 1/2 hour if the last person getting up.

All 3 of my kids tell me they can’t not make their bed. They like seeing a made bed! It’s starts their day.

I live alone. On most days, I don’t go in my bedroom until I am ready to go to sleep. It does not make sense to make my bed for an empty room that nobody sees. I instead keep my bed in the ready to be used state.

Every day. I like to get into a bed with tight sheets!

I make my bed once a week when I change the sheets. All other days I fold back the sheet and duvet into a triangle on my side because I like the idea of airing out the mattress. I have considered switching to the dual duvet system but the cost to replace our one duvet with 2 twins of the same brand is too pricey.

Every.single.day. Even in hotels if there is not daily service.

DW make the bed every day. Otherwise it would be left unmade.

Wow, we follow the Scandinavian sleep method without ever knowing that it was a thing. My husband sleeps with his own twin sized blanket for himself and I use the bigger queen sized one for myself. He got tired of me pulling the covers off of him a few years ago.

We make the bed everyday (not necessarily the minute I get up since we often get up at different times). I take his smaller blanket and fold it up and it lives on a closet shelf during the day.

Yes. But we usually didn’t make our bed when still working. In retirement, whichever one of us gets up last is that day’s bed maker.

Doesn’t anyone “beat” out their mattresses and sheets before they make the bed???

My grandmother and my mother taught me.
My husband always finds it odd.

I also make the beds in hotels because I want a “fresh” organized space.

Yes, right after we get up.

Yes. Both of us hate getting into an unmade bed, and both of us hate tucked in sheets which also helps. I generally made it daily for the first 15-20 years. H has generally made it the last 10-15 years. I make it on the days I change the sheets

He fusses I don’t do it right. He has military like precision aside from tucking in the sheets. I fuss he doesn’t unmake it right at night. I don’t share sheets. He’s a bed hog. Bad enough. I’d likely have killed him by now if he stole my sheets too.

Fortunately, I hate sleeping with a sheet and he hates sleeping with a comforter. After I take off and fold the decorative comforter on the floor, I whip off my comforter, hold one end in one hand, scoot his sheet over to his side and whip mine back on my side. It takes less than 20 seconds. If H goes to bed first, he just crawls in, and then when I go to bed I have move everything over while he’s in it. Grr…

Oh yes - we also make up the bed(s) in hotels. I prefer to get two queens even if it’s just us so for once I have space while sleeping!
